July 4th Fireworks
Posted By CindyIf you read my last post, you know that I was awaiting word from the Waterbury Republican American on whether they would run my classified ad. Well around 2:30 p.m. my cell phone and landline phones rang AT THE SAME TIME, believe it or not. It was the classified ad supervisor and Publisher William Pape calling to tell me they would run my ad. I thank both of these people, especially Mr. Pape, for taking time to speak with me. The ad will be in the classified section Friday and Monday. The Record-Journal is also running my ad in their “local” section.
I am now running the following press release from the Cheshire Police Department. Thanks again to Chief Michael Cruess.
Cheshire Police Department
Traffic Division

DUI RoadblockChief Michael Cruess announced that the Cheshire Police Department will participate in the “2007 Memorial Day / 4th of July DUI Enforcement Programâ€, a Federal Highway Safety Program administered through the Conn. Department of Transportation Division of Highway Safety. As part of this program the Department will also conduct activities associated with occupant restraint and child safety seat enforcement. The Police Department will be operating two (2) DUI roadblocks over the Fourth of July holiday. The first will occur on Friday June 29, 2007 and the second will be on Tuesday July 3, 2007. Violations to be targeted will be DUI and alcohol related offenses, cell phone safety seat violations. These roadblocks are mostly funded through a grant offered by the Federal Highway Administration and administered by the Connecticut Department of Transportation. The Seventy-five percent (75%) of the cost will be paid by the grant.
The Cheshire Police Department will conduct motor vehicle checkpoints at locations in Cheshire and vehicles will be briefly detained according to a set plan. Officers will interview operators to establish whether there are signs of alcohol use and to determine whether vehicle occupants are properly belted or restrained. Inconvenience to motorists should be minimal. It is hoped that through this detection and deterrence effort Cheshire’s roads will be safer for all motorists. Future motor vehicle checkpoints should also be expected as part of this program.
The public is reminded to “buckle up†and please, don’t drink and drive.
Speaking of traffic enforcement, people are reporting an increased police presence on West Johnson Avenue. I know people speed on various roads, but I wonder why on West Johnson Avenue. Is there really a traffic problem there or do we all know “someone” who works in that area? A person told me they did receive a ticket but reported the law enforcement official was very professional. That is all that matters to me. That the person being stopped was stopped for an actual offense, which this person was, and the law enforcement official was professional. Enough said.
I also received some information about this “survey” regarding the proposed Lifestyle Center. Apparently a member of the Planning and Zoning Commission stated that 80 percent of people wanted the so-called “mall.” This apparently was taken from the pseudo-surveys the local paper keeps taking every week. All you have to do is click on the survey icon and hit on one of the answers 5,000 times. Boy is that accurate. I would love to see the IP address, notice I am saying IP address of the person who is answering these surveys. How accurate can this be? NOT VERY!! And what is sad is people are getting upset about it. The only accurate survey is one of the Polls that Harris or Quinnipiac takes. It is a random phone survey. Not click it, click it, click it. Soon the Undergroundtownhall will be conducting its own survey. Stayed tuned.
I know it’s not fireworks, but I am posting this video of the New Haven Coliseum implosion gone awry. The video was shot on January 20 of this year. Happy Fourth!!
