Security firm criticized for leaflets in Cheshire neighborhood

CHESHIRE, Conn.

A national alarm company will donate to charity to atone for spreading leaflets in a Cheshire neighborhood in the days after a mother and her two daughters were killed there in a home invasion, officials said.

ADT Security Services Inc. has agreed to donate $1,000 to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, a charity supported by homicide victims Jennifer Hawke-Petit, 48, and her daughters, 17-year-old Hayley and 11-year-old Michaela.

They were killed July 23 in a burglary, kidnapping and arson in which Hawke-Petit’s husband, Dr. William Petit, was critically injured.

ADT Security Services acknowledged it distributed its fliers - bearing the title, “A Sign of the Times” - in the Petit family’s neighborhood in the days after the homicides, but said they were never meant to offend.

“Prompted by the tragic attack on the Petit family, the ADT Wallingford office received numerous requests for information from people interested in electronic security systems to help protect themselves and their families from a similar violent attack,” company spokeswoman Ann Lindstrom said Friday.

“ADT was responsive to the inquiries received from the community by providing them with information and risk assessments,” she said. “Members of the community expressed gratitude to ADT for our prompt response, while others were critical of us.”

Connecticut Consumer Protection Commissioner Jerry Farrell Jr., whose agency received complaints about the leaflets, said many homeowners told him they were offended and believed the timing and contents of the fliers were in poor taste.

“When I heard about ADT leafleting the neighborhood, and saw the flier in question, I was outraged,” Farrell said. “While one cannot say that this advertisement was false, the timing and nature of it was totally inappropriate.”

Two parolees, Joshua Komisarjevsky of Cheshire and Steven Hayes of Winsted, face charges of capital felony, sexual assault and numerous other offenses in the Petit family members’ deaths.

Prosecutors have said they plan to seek the death penalty.

Thursday August 30th marks a new school year in Cheshire. Many tears will be shed-some will be tears of joy and some will be tears of apprehension. For some, this day marks the beginning of the end, especially for those who are now seniors in high school–for others, this day marks the beginning of the beginning. The first separation of child from parent. It is a turning point for both these groups. Hopefully everything will go smoothly. For my kids, Thursday, August 30 will be the equivalent of trying to jump start an engine on a car that has not been used for nearly 3 months. Oh well, good luck to all the parents.

Now it has come to my attention that there seems to be a problem with some people in the Town Government regarding the purpose of my website.

First of all, I am just going to say this–The Undergroundtownhall does NOT condone anyone writing anonymous letters that contain threats or verbal abuse or name calling. I have said this before and I will keep saying it. I don’t know what some people in the Town Government think is going on with my website. I get the feeling based on what this person told me that they think I am “encouraging” people to engage in this activity. I am not!! Anyone who knows me knows that if I have something to say to someone, I say it to their face, and if I write a letter, I put my name on it. I cannot control what adult people are saying or doing. And for me to have to hear from a very trusted source that I am encouraging people to write derrogatory letters to the town regarding the home invasion in July to get some sort of revenge is just plain disgusting.

I am sure some of the letters that were received by the Town Government were awful, as was indicated in a recent Town Council meeting, but to have someone contact me with information that some people connected with the town think I had something to do with it is just plain assinine.

You know what the trouble is with the people who run this town-they think their shit doesn’t stink. They started it. I really love people who step on other people’s toes and act surprised when they get a reaction.

The bottom line–I backed up the Cheshire Police Department when the issue arose regarding the time line in relation to the home invasion, but that doesn’t mean I am stupid. Many things in that issue do not make sense and unfortunately we all may never find out what really happened. When you step to people, many of them get angry. Those letters, whatever they say that is negative, is a reaction-a frustration. Stop the nonsense in this town with the ticket ticket ticket and the bullying tactics and the censorship as a way of “controlling” people and maybe most of the unsavory comments will stop.

I remember when I first moved here, my husband told me he was participating in town events, political and non-political. At first I didn’t think anything of it. But then, several years later, a local resident asked for my husbands’ help in a traffic ticket matter. The local resident took the matter to court and it got in front of a judge. The judge actually threw the matter out-he dismissed it because some information provided by the authorities was conflicting in nature to put it mildly.

After that I started noticing strange things beginning to happen. My husband started coming home and telling me he was getting pulled over and receiving tickets for things like passing a car on the right that was turning left, (i.e. where it was legal to do so); not stopping behind the white line at a stop sign or not stopping for three seconds ) personally, I can’t see how one can tell how long someone is stopped at a stop sign without a stopwatch). I know my husband, I know he doesn’t speed and he stops completely at stop signs. In fact, I used to yell at him for going to0 slow.

Every time we got into the car after that he would always say “I have to watch it, I have to drive even slower.” The man was traumatized. In fact, the local resident we helped also noticed the same things.

The kicker was the night several years ago that my husband had to go to the aid of his mother who had a medical emergency. She called on the phone late at night. My husband started to go to her house when low and behold out of the darkness with no lights on parked on a side road that my husband would only use to go to his mothers house as a shortcut, was a cop. My husband got pulled over and told he did not stop at the stop sign fully.

When my husband came home that night he was practically in tears. He said he could not believe it. I will tell you, if it were anyone else, I might have had doubts, but I know my husband obeys the speed limit and traffic sign laws. If you don’t believe me, drive behind him! From that day on even until today he always tells me-be careful-stop fully-look how fast you are going. I told him I don’t cower in any boy’s town- I don’t cower to anyone.

You know I don’t condone law breaking or speeding or any thing of that sort that is not the point. You all know what the point is. Using law enforcement to keep people in their place and afraid is WRONG!! And I am NOT blaming the rank and file on the CPD. I am blaming the town government They are just doing what they are told. I am on their side!!

Several years ago I was coming home from work when I accidentally had turned my high beams on when making a right turn onto Rt. 68-70. I didn’t realize I had done it. The car in front of me kept slamming on their brakes. Well, I guess the police saw what was going on and pulled both of us over near the local farm market. When the police officer got out of the car, he went to the car in front of me, then over to my car and said “we don’t want people like you in our town.” Case closed people!

I went in front of the town council and asked them what that meant. I never got an answer just stares. I remember being on the front page of a local paper (not the Herald-are you kidding?) and people seeing me around town telling me I was a hero for bringing up this issue.

From time to time I have had to go to the hospital for medical issues that is all I will say, they were not physical issues either. I remember when I got out of the hospital that night, I was sitting by the window in my living room and saw a police car driving by my house like I was some sort of criminal. If they had driven by somebody elses house recently on North Brooksvale Road the way they were driving by my house, maybe we would not have had the incident we had last month! But see that person wasn’t questioning or trying to speak out. I don’t even want to say what else transpired  with my son’s supposed “highbeam” episode a few years ago now because it is too upsetting.

The Undergroundtownhall is a reaction to all of this and more. I started it because I had a hard time getting my cable shows on Channel 15 I have already told you the runaround I got with that issue a few years ago. Every time I wanted to air a show it was like pulling teeth and worse. I had to constantly hammer them at Cox to get the shows on-bascially because SOMEONE in the Town Government did not like the content-I was talking frankly about town issues. I even resorted to going on Joe Zdoncyks show in Waterbury called “You and Me Against the World” to talk about it. My 16 year old son that produced these shows can tell you what we had to go through. How do you think he felt?

That is why I decided to post a video player on my updated website so I could eventually re-air my own shows.

Now I  feel upset again. I take a lot of pride in my website and I am really hurt over what I have heard from this person. I have had a sad feeling in my heart over it. It is bad enough I still have a hard time dealing with what was said to me several years ago  when I decided to try to resurrect the idea for the police commission.: I talk to much-I have no morals-I am a criminal-you are a wacko-we are taking your kids away from you” Need I go on.

I  can’t write anymore because of the tears in my eyes. My heart is forever scarred by all of this. My family is scarred from it also.  I will never get over that never. I stopped things I was doing because I was so hurt by that. Mean and cold- that is all I can say about it. And I am not the only one I know it. There was an elderly resident who came in front of the ordinance committee last December and told his story. I will never mention his name but it is public record. I may run the minutes so you all can see but I will leave out this man’s name for his own peace of mind. Having a cop stand in front of his house all day waiting for him to see if he registered his car. His neighbors saw it. The poor man was embarrassed beyond belief.

You people who run this town can think and say what you want but you know the truth. You crashed and burned Cheshire!!! ”

“Oh Bridgeport, you are from there-oh its nasty!! “We don’t have to lock our doors here what do you think this is Bridgeport,”   Yeah-right-who is in the news all the time now people?

And you know what, it wasn’t even someone from the “high crime areas” that we are supposedly surrounded by that did the last two crimes was it?

Never mind the live town council broadcasts and “we need the minutes posted on the town website”. Encourage people to come to these meetings. Maybe if there was more community involvement there would not be these issues. The people need to be in charge of this town. When the Town Council or Planning and Zoning meet, there is hardly anyone there! That is the problem. Get involved people!!!

Well everyone I am back with a new post. Unfortunately I had a problem with my other computer. It got a virus and all I kept seeing were pop-up ads. You have to wonder who came up with the pop-up ad idea. You know it is strictly an American invention.

When I discovered that I had the pop-up ad problem, I thought I could just “work around it.” WRONG!! The damn ad follows you around the entire page you are on. I would try scrolling up and down and the ad would follow. It even covers the entire page so no matter what you tried to do, you could not get rid of it. Talk about pushy!! I finally gave up and brought the laptop to the garage so to speak. So now I am on my old desktop. I went to post something this afternoon, but I forgot my sign-on. I had to call my son who told me I had typed in to the wrong prompts. I don’t know, all I do is write and come up with the ideas, I am not a technical person at all. I don’t have the patience, I admit that much.

So I finally am able to get going again and I feel better. I know many of you were worried that I might not post again. Some of you probably wished I would never post again. Whatever,

Now back to some issues in town. As most of you probably know, the town of Cheshire is in the news again and it isn’t good. A Cheshire couple is suing the town over the Barite mine problem. It seems the Bakers now have a new inground swimming pool and they didn’t have to spend dime one on a backhoe. No, seriously, I guess when the Bakers purchased their property several years ago, they did not realize, because no one told them, (ever hear of disclosure?) that their property was the site of an old Baryite mine. Maybe they did not have a map! This is the most pathetic story I have ever heard. I really feel sorry for these people. They should be suing.

This information was known but was not made available by some one whose name I will not mention, but oh, let me go the medicine chest I have a knot on my head from tripping over my son’s baseball bat.

The Town Assessor should re-assess the Baker’s property at zero value because let’s face it, this hole could evenutally worsen and swallow the entire property up. Unless you are really into the sinkhole phenomena, I don’t believe anyone would want to live at this address. I have a link to the story filed by WTNH Channel 8. Fever over China’s online game swamps server

Game lets players fight corrupt officials, their bikini-clad mistresses

BEIJING - A Chinese government-sponsored online game that allows players to battle corrupt officials and their bikini-clad mistresses has been overwhelmed by user demand, state media reported Tuesday.

The Ningbo Haishu District Discipline Commission in Zhejiang province launched “Incorruptible Warrior” to show people how to fight corrupt officials, Xinhua News Agency said.

But demand for the game was too great.

“It has been closed so it could be updated as more and more users have registered, overloading the server,” Xinhua quoted an unidentified commission official as saying.

Corruption remains widespread among high-level officials in China, despite public anger and repeated campaigns by the ruling Communist Party to uproot graft.

“The game requires players to learn government anti-corruption measures and to kill corrupt officials while avoiding attacks by their henchmen and mistresses clad in bikinis,” Xinhua said.

The game was released on July 25 and had reportedly attracted more than 10,000 players by Aug. 1. However, the game server could only accommodate 600 players at a time, according to head designer Hua Tong.

“The game is a new method of anti-corruption education,” Hua said.

It is not known when the game would be back online, Xinhua said.

Ok, I just want everyone to know that for some reason I have developed a BIG following in Germany. and in other former “iron curtain” countries including Siberia of all places.

The big draw seems to be, believe it or not, the posts I did on the no mall signs on the telephone poles in Cheshire and the problems that ensued afterwards ( like they were taken down and other signs were left up, especially that Tag Sale sign that is still up on the pole opposite C—— Real Estate)!!!  These people in Siberia probably did the same and ended up in the Gulag.

The Underground Town Hall “staff” will be out monitoring the sign situation once again, because it seems it is getting out of control. (That is because none of the signs say “No Mall” or “No Queen Street)” that is why!

I may have a big German following because of my last name–I don’t know.

Well, I always knew German people were smart. So to celebrate Das Unter grund Rathaus  is now re-running that classic German music video as the featured video on the Home Page entitled: “My Hands Are Bananas.”

Now many of you were wondering about the featured Arabic video. An Arab friend asked me to run this video. It was Iraqi and was entitled “Salem Allah.”

I was glad to put it on because this really was a tribute to the people (the ordinary people) of Iraq who have had to endure so much now and in the past. I really feel sorry for them. I know they want to live a normal life and hopefully we can help them. But, it will take a LONG time before Iraq straightens out. I hope to God it does and we can all live peacefully.

Remember Iraq was once the cradle of civilization. Hopefully it will return to that stature soon.

UPDATE: I am STILL WAITING for the Police Gift Account report to arrive in the mail. I hope I do not have to wait too much longer!! I may have to make an appearance at the next Town Council meeting to stress my point.
