Editor’s note: Now as many of you know from reading the Herald, there was a letter to the Editor (of the Herald), by an Adam Cook who claims he was mis-identified with another man with the same name (apparently the other man’s last name has an “e” on the end of it).
Mr. Cook claims in his letter that when he entered a Cheshire Police Department checkpoint and the police found out his name, he was put into handcuffs, made to sit on the side of the road while several (meaning more than two) officers ransacked his vehicle.
Well, if any of you people know me, you know what happened when I read that story. Yes, you guessed it. I contacted the Chief and asked what was going on. I think the Chief knew I was going to call him on that issue, because when I mentioned the man’s name he like sort of knew what I was calling about.
The Chief said to me that the head of the traffic division Lt. Deegan was going to contact the man to inquire into his statements. I will be contacting Lt. Deegan to find out what is going on. I am trying to call Mr. Cook, but I have not had any luck. I told the Chief that was not the first time I heard about someone’s car being ransacked by the police, but in all fairness, I only heard one part of the story and it was third party. So I took it with a grain of salt. But this was a letter to the editor so it needs following up Michael Milone Town Manager!!!
I am not accusing the Police of doing anything wrong (here we go)!! But when someone feels so strongly about an issue that they sit down and pen a letter to the editor, it should prompt an investigation, by at least the Town Manager’s office.
I commend Lt. Deegan for at least attempting to get in touch with this individual. I know Lt. Deegan and he is a professional. So hopefully, this issue will be resolved in a timely manner.
Speaking of the Herald, I guess some part of the meeting I had with Maureen the owner paid off. If you get the Herald and look on page 10, you will now see a list of upcoming meetings for the week!!! Hooray!!!! I did ask that it be put on the bottom right of the front page but page 10 will do for now.
Cheshire is not in the witness protection program (as far as I know), so meetings and names of people accused of a crime, or names of businesses broken into should be made public. This is important, not to embarass the business, but to alert the public who may have seen something.
Cheshire Town Government, listen. People are not going to pack up en-masse and leave town because of these incidents. This is an unfortunate part of life these days and is no reflection on our police department. Criminals and crime exist everywhere in every city and town. We need to know as much information as possible, but I do see an opening up and a move in the right direction!!! So I will keep on it.
I have to go now because I am busy preparing for Thursdays Candidate Debate. This historic event which will be chronicled in the halls of history, will take place Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall Town Council Chambers, at 84 South Main Street, Cheshire, Ct.
I hope to see you all there!!!
