Waste Barrels?

I received these photos from a resident. The photo on the “top” shows at least 15 barrels lined up on the vacant property between the 7-11 store and Dunkin Donuts on Rt. 10.

The photo on the “bottom”shows some sort of well with the cover left off. Now I went over to this area and noticed there is a fence around the perimeter of the property, but one can easily access it by foot because there is only a heavy chain stretched across the opening to the lot. One could easily walk onto the property.

The first three barrels in the foreground, do not have any label on them at all. The rest of the barrels, especially the last several, say something to the effect of “waste water” whatever that means.

I was told by my husband that this area was the former site of Huxley’s Garage and gasoline station.

The question is: WHAT IS IN THESE BARRELS? It says “non-hazardous” on them for the most part, but ARE THEY? Will these barrels stay there FOREVER? Will they ever be REMOVED?

I would imagine that real estate on Rt. 10 in Cheshire would be prime land. Why has it remained in this state for so long? Is it contaminated? I don’t know, but someone does. Hopefully I will get an answer but I am not holding my breath.

BTW: I added some new photos to the Featured Photos that are currently running on the right side of the Issues Page. The last three photos were taken in Meriden. One shows their new Linear Trail and the nice park off South Meriden Road.

Also, I am preparing for the “Photos by Gordon and Cindy Kleist” exhibit which will take place in the Mary Baldwin Room of the Cheshire Library the month of June. If you wish to purchase any of these photos, name a (reasonable) price, and the money will be donated to your favorite charity or organization.

The Police Log saga continues: Hopefully I will be meeting IN PRIVATE with the Police Chief to discuss concerns. P.S. I STILL see that Gas Guzzler Police SUV being driven around. And DON’T think I don’t see you when you try to park in the back of Greenwich Coffee!!

Here is an interesting article on Police BIKE PATROLS!!

Suckiaug

I am not going to be able to post for a few days while maintenance is performed on the website. I also will be tied up with job related issues.

If you were attempting to access UTH Sunday afternoon for a few hours and noticed “under construction” that was me fooling around with a new masthead design and accidentally hitting some button that screwed everything up.

The new masthead design will be VERY unique. My technical advisor is working feverishly on this. The masthead will include a sign that mimics the blue signs you see in every city and town throughout Connecticut that explains the history of that specific area.

Speaking of signs, I came across a cool website with some interesting and funny signs.

I know all of you are wondering what in God’s name the title of this post means? It is the Native American name for a Connecticut town.

GAS PRICES AROUND CHESHIRE AS OF THURSDAY, MAY 22, 2008

NOTICE IT IS NOW $4.95 a gallon for diesel!!

SINCE MAY 22, THE IRVING STATION HAS RAISED THEIR PRICE FROM $4.15 to $4.19 A GALLON!

Here is a link to Gas Prices Around the World. CHECK OUT VENEZUELA!!

I know the media has been doing stories on our gas prices and one of my most recent posts “An Energy Crisis” has a good article on this subject, with the author suggesting that much of this “crisis” is not a crisis at all, but an attempt by our government to control its people ONCE AGAIN!!!

But this time, the government may be in for a surprise. They may not be able to pull back. It may already be too late. Many people are on the brink. Crime is rising rapidly. You see more and more robberies and gasoline thefts. I still see traffic, but I have noticed that during the daytime, it has leveled off. It is getting to the point where one will only be able to drive when necessary. Boy I wish I knew that Skeleton password!!

Now I know many of you have contacted me regarding the Cheshire Police Department SUV issue. Well, guess what? Another Police Department was spotted Thursday doing the exact same thing!!

A member of our “community” left a message on my answering machine Thursday morning stating that he was driving in Berlin, albeit the Kensington section, on Rt. 72 or is it 71, I can’t remember, although it is the road that goes past Meriden Square, (Chamberlain Highway), around 11:30 a.m., and right before the turnoff to Rt. 372, there was a sign for construction. The person said utility work was being done and right as he came up to the worksite, he saw a Berlin Police officer getting out of, not a police cruiser, but a BIG SUV!!

He told me the cop was smoking a cigar and unfortunately, he could not get a photo with his camera phone because he was afraid he would be ticketed for cell phone use.

Of course, when I arrived home about a half hour later, I decided to go out there and see for myself. Sure enough I came upon the SUV with “BERLIN POLICE” on the side of it. I decided to snap a picture with my cellphone. I got the photo, the cop gave me a dirty look, I drove past and guess what? NO PHOTO. I forgot to hit SAVE. This phone stinks. I can’t wait to get my new free phone in June. My old phone worked better. You just took the photo and it was saved. Oh well. I didn’t dare go back!!

This is OUTRAGEOUS. So you see we are not just picking on Cheshire. It is happening all over!!.

When Village Oil aka F&S Oil went belly up a few months ago, we saw the oil sign in Plantsville for a local oil company, We ended up getting oil from them. Late last week, the price on the sign was $3.96. On Thursday, May 22, it was $4.20 cents a gallon!!! Many people will be freezing to death this winter and these municipalities have the arrogance to drive these behemoth vehicles around. WHO DO THEY THINK IS PAYING FOR THIS GAS?

Soon the U.S. Government will be sorry it played with the people this time. There will be massive economic and social problems arising from this game that our Government insists on playing from time to time.

I fear it will be much more than rocks that will be thrown at the next Presidential Inauguration motorcade. Because Americans are not used to high fuel prices as they are in Europe and in other parts of the world. Many of us were fooled into low energy security. “Buy the SUV’s and big big cars. We have plenty of fuel.”

We still do. Re-read that article on the Energy Crisis? post. It is all a game, but this time, the tables will be turned and there will be no turning back.!!

A New Way

I received a call from a local paper about a story they are doing on blogs. I have made it my practice not to talk to any media or anyone in any official capacity anymore. I do all my speaking on Undergroundtownhall or from something I have written and keep a copy of.

Our family has endured enough misquotes and misunderstandings from the people in authority. I don’t need to read what they THINK I said.

Anyone who has been with Undergroundtownhall from the start knows why this website (NOT A BLOG) was started. I don’t need to elaborate on it.

I am including the lyrics that go with the Go-Go’s song on the Featured Media page. This says it all.

Can you hear them
They talk about us
Telling lies
Well, that’s no surprise

Can you see them
See right through them
They have no shield
No secrets to reveal

It doesn’t matter what they say
In the jealous games people play
Our lips are sealed

There’s a weapon
That we must use
In our defense
Silence

When you look at them
Look right through them
That’s when they’ll disappear
That’s when we’ll be feared

It doesn’t matter what they say
In the jealous games people play
Our lips are sealed

Give no mind to what they say
It doesn’t matter anyway
Our lips are sealed

Hush, my darling
Don’t you cry
Quiet, angel
Forget their lies

Can you hear them
They talk about us
Telling lies
Well, that’s no surprise

Can you see them
See right through them
They have no shield
No secrets to reveal

It doesn’t matter what they say
In the jealous games people play
Our lips are sealed

Pay no mind to what they say
It doesn’t matter anyway
Our lips are sealed
Our lips are sealed

An Energy Crisis?

We are all aware of the rapid rise of energy. But what is the truth? Is the world running out of oil faster than expected? Will gas prices reach $12 a gallon by the end of the summer? Or is it hype by the Government? Is there more oil out there? What about Alaska?

And as far as the Community Pool goes, I see only one option: put the polycarbonate glass structure that the Milford/Orange YMCA has already done. It will be costly, but in long run, worth it economically. I had mentioned the “ear” (connection) that was built at Cheshire High School off of the auditorium a few months ago, asking the question why didn’t the town originally put the pool in the school AS MOST TOWNS DO?

My answer is still the same: trying to show off!!

Now other people are mentioning this as an option. This is not a viable option. I don’t believe closing the Community pool and putting another pool in the school will work out. We will still be stuck with heating this new pool. If the town bites the bullet and puts up the retractable greenhouse structure, at least the pool would be heated by the sun.

Stop trying to act like YOU came up with these ideas!! You know I come up with all the good ideas-stop copying will you it is annoying.

Speaking of annoying, I ran into “someone” the other day who told me they are trying to submit my name to “AmIAnnoying.com” so you can all vote. I KNOW you will vote that I am NOT ANNOYING–hmm, I hope you will–will you?

Now back to serious matters, let’s look at a few articles that talk about this energy crisis:

Click here on how to cut swimming pool energy costs

One of the interesting items in the above article talks about putting in windbreaks to cut down on energy use.

According to this article, a mere 7 mph wind can result in a 300 percent increase in energy use!!!

This might be something the Cheshire Community Pool can look into because it is WINDY at Bartlem Park. I remember when I used to take my kids to Playground in the Park and it seems there would always be a stiff wind.

Right now, you have a flat surface right out to Rt. 10. Planting a few poplar trees as a windbreak might do the trick.
