I was outside doing some work on my snowblower when I happened to look over at my mailbox and noticed some more political flyers.

So I went to pick them out and lo and behold-there were two interesting items. One was a flyer from Elizabeth Esty, Democratic Candidate for the 103rd Assembly seat which encompasses PARTS of Wallingford, Hamden and Cheshire. She is running against incumbent Al Adinolfi, (R).

The other flyer was well, not really a flyer, it was a white piece of what looks like typing paper, folded in half.

One side has what looks like a postcard with an American flag background.  On the right side of the front of the postcard it says “Betsy Adams/Aleta Looker-Registrar of Voters-Not Only does experience count, It’s Necessary!”

Beneath a real bad copy of this “postcard” is what appears to be the flip side which has a postmark “Southern Ct 064–a date of Oct (I can’t make it out) and a canceled stamp citing a quote from John Adams.

Now I just want to say, I KNOW I never received this postcard.  I WONDER WHY!!

But I did receive this “Letter” from Al Adinolfi that Ms. Esty is mentioning in a brochure where Al talks about same sex marriage, birth control, abortion, stem cell research and contraceptives.  The letterhead says “Alfred C Adinolfi “Adinolfi Again” and underneath it is his home address.

But anyway, Esty’s flyer is folded in half. The front has “Elizabeth Esty will change Hartford” and on the flip side there is the statement: “Connecticut’s Families Face Real Problems: i.e. shrinking retirement accounts, tax increases, pain at the pump, tuition squeeze, on and on. I am not going to verbatim repeat this flyer I AM SURE YOU ALL RECEIVED IT.

Inside the flyer there is that copy of a letter from “Adinolfi Again” and Esty has the same sex marriage, birth control, abortion, stem cell research and contraceptives, highlighted or I should say, raised up from a copy of the letter to highlight these phrases.

She then has a copy of an article from the Waterbury Republican American newspaper that states Al received $4,130 from special interests. The Esty flyers states that Al Adinolfi has taken money from over 35 special interest PACS in the last four years. She cites the CBIA website for more information.

I personally cannot STAND the CBIA.

I guess the gist of the Al Adinolfi letter of Oct. 27, 2008 states that Al opposed a bill that would allow same sex couples to adopt children and “led the fight against a bill condoning same sex marriage and in 2005.”

The flyer also quotes Al’s letter stating he voted to deny funding for embryonic stem cell research.

I don’t have a problem with Al’s letter in part. I do agree with him that marriage should be between a man and a woman and no, to quote someone, I don’t feel threatened in my marriage. Believe me, NO ONE COMPARES TO ME IN THE BEDROOM!!

But, even though I do not agree with same sex marriage,  I WILL TELL YOU THAT if MY CONSTITUENTS WANTED SAME SEX MARRIAGE, and STEM CELL RESEARCH-I WOULD VOTE FOR IT!!. BECAUSE I WOULD REPRESENT MY CONSTITUENTS.

But Al Adinolfi votes from his heart and votes for what he believes his constituents want. If you don’t agree with his platform,  DON”T SUPPORT HIM.

I don’t agree with everything Barack Obama says, and I am sure many Republicans don’t totally agree with everything John McCain says. But you weigh your choices and decide in your heart who will do the best job for this country.

I DO AGREE WITH A WOMAN’S RIGHT TO CHOOSE and I support it, even though I do not believe in abortion. That is a personal decision. But, I am also SICK AND TIRED of our society blaming the woman ALL THE TIME!!

“We found a baby abandoned, we arrested the mother.”

WHAT ABOUT THE FATHER?? WHY DON’T YOU ARREST HIM? WHY? BECAUSE AS I STATED BEFORE-WE LIVE IN A PATRIARCHAL SOCIETY THAT DISDAINS WOMAN AND CHILDREN–PERIOD. IT IS ALWAYS THE WOMANS FAULT. IT TAKES TWO TO TANGO-TWO SHOULD BE BLAMED!!

I will be honest, well, I am always honest with you. But I did have a problem with a statement Al Adinolfi made at the Wallingford debates regarding some people visiting the prison and then shoplifting.

It is around the 45 minute mark, when Al talks about the prison and how we should be getting the PILOT (Payment in Lieu of Taxes) money that the state is really screwing Cheshire out of–Al is right about that part, Cheshire getting screwed out of PILOT money.

And, as I told you in a few posts ago, don’t count Ms Esty out. She DID come up with a “response” letter to the letter put out by the Senior Tax Freeze Committee. It looks like the same “format” and even has the signatures like the Senior Tax Freeze Committee. ARE WE MOCKING NOW???

Here is the letter from Democratic members of the Cheshire Town Council. I am TYPING it in verbatim:

Nov. 1, 2008

Dear Friend,

It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve the residents of Cheshire on our Town Council. Many of you have supported us individually and as a group with your votes on election day in years past. We have worked very hard to fulfill your expectations to make Cheshire a great place to live, raise a family, and watch your grandchildren grow.

Everything we have accomplished on the Council-stable budgets, a healthy surplus protecting us from the economic crisis we find ourselves in, one of the most generous senior tax relief programs among the 169 towns in the state of Connecticut-would have been impossible without Elizabeth Esty, who is running for State Representative in this district this fall. We strongly support Elizabeth, and urge you to vote for her on November 4.

From the day she was sworn in on the Town Council, Elizabeth has been a leader, setting an example for hard work, thoughtfulness and consensus building that we have all sought to follow. That is why we are writing to ask you to support Elizabeth. We know from personal experience she has what it takes to make changes at the state capitol-diligence, intellect and, most importantly, an interest in bringing us together to bridge divides and move forward in the best interest of all of Cheshire. We believe she is by far the better candidate.

We are dismayed by what seems to be an effort by her opponent to drive a wedge among our residents by highlighting differences on hot-button issues rather than trying to unite the district to find solutions to what is first on everyone’s mind: turning our economy around. In our opinion, the incumbent Al Adinolfi’s campaign seems more directed toward pitting us against one another rather than trying to bring us together and get things done. That’s not leadership, that’s opportunism. We can’t afford two more years of that in this environment.

Week in and week out, we have seen Elizabeth Esty in action, always respectful of other opinions and working across traditional divides. She works hard to draw the best arguments and elements out of those who disagree and then get everyone to the table to create practical solutions that meets our whole community’s needs. That is why we disagree so strongly with the suggestion that only an incumbent who has “played the game” in Hartford for many years can get things done. If “connections” were what really mattered, we wouldn’t have the mess we have in Hartford. Elizabeth has demonstrated that she has exactly what it takes to get things done and make positive changes for all of us-new energy, new ideas, hard work, and a belief that democracy works best when people work together.

Don’t fall victim to the cynicism that only those with connections to the old boy network of lobbyists, state contractors, and professional politicians can make things happen. We don’t believe that. One person can make a difference for the better, and Elizabeth Esty will. Though we will miss her leadership on the Council, the stakes are too high to have our self-interest take priority over the need of this district for new energy, new ideas and a new way of doing things in Hartford.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter, and please take it for what it is intended to be: a strong endorsement, not from a publisher or a special interest group, not from lobbyists and the good old boys, but from four fellow Cheshire-ites who believe very strontly that Elizabeth Esty is the clear choice on November 4th.

Sincerely, Matt Hall, Town Council Chairman; Michael Ecke, Town Council Vice-Chairman; Laura DeCaprio, 3rd District Town Council Representative and Matthew Altieiri, Town Council At-Large Representative.

I have a message for the entire Cheshire Town Council–PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH–STOP THE PARTY LINE VOTING FOR ONE!! EXCERCISE FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY AT THIS HARD ECONOMIC TIME–NO ARTIFICIAL TURF. HAVE REAL FROM THE HEART SPUR OF THE MOMENT DISCUSSIONS AT THE COUNCIL MEETINGS, NOT PUT IT IN WRITING OR THIS IS NOT A GOOD TIME OR GET OUT AN E-MAIL- AND STOP THE CLOCK WATCHING.

THANK YOU FROM YOUR NEXT WRITE-IN PRESIDENT-CINDY KLEIST

I left out of this post a LOT of my personal feelings because I don’t want to jeopardize any of the candidates. Remember, this blog gets OVER several thousand hits a week, and I have a big readership in Hamden so take it for what it is worth.

But before I go, I did want to comment on that “postcard” flyer that was put on my mailbox. As I stated above, one side of the flyer has a copy of the postcard with the two registrar of voters names on it and underneath the statement “NOT ONLY DOES EXPERIENCE COUNT, IT’S NECESSARY!”

Then on the other side of the postcard it reads:

“Vote Tuesday, November 4. For any questions regarding your registration, voting district or representatives, Call us at 271-6680 or go to our website at : www.cheshirect.org/elections

Betsy and Aleta.”

On the right hand side of the paper if you will is a “commentary.”

It states:

WHEN WILL THEY STOP WASTING OUR MONEY

THEY TAKE $84,000 IN PAY

THEY DON’t REGISTER UP TO 2,300 ELIGIBLE CHESHIRE RESIDENTS

AND THEY WIN WITH ONE VOTE (FIXED UNFAIR ELECTION)

IT’S TIME FOR A CHANGE

VOTE TUESDAY NOVEMBER 4th FOR CHANGE.

VOTE MORAN FOR REGISTRAR OF VOTERS

PER CONNECTICUT ELECTION LAW THE ATTACHED POST CARD YOU RECEIVED AT YOUR HOME IS ILLEGAL.

IT IS ILLEGAL TO SEND OUT A POLITICAL CAMPAIGN POST CARD AND DIRECT YOU TO THE TOWN OF CHESHIRE’S PUBLIC TAXPAYER FUNDED PHONE NUMBER AND WEBSITE FOR THEIR RE-ELECTION PURPOSES.

I GUESS EXPERIENCE COUNTS. BUT OBEYING THE LAW IS NOT NECESSARY.

SEND THE DEMOCRAT (ALETA LOOKER) AND REPUBLICAN (BETSY ADAMS) A MESSAGE ON ELECTION DAY NOVEMBER 4TH

NOBODY IS ABOVE THE LAW REGARDLESS OF HOW MANY YEARS OF EXPERIENCE.

I am wondering if something wrong WAS DONE, if the offending parties will be getting a phone call from the police department as I did last November when I was accused of putting my pamphets in other candidates plastic bags and then hanging them on mailboxes off Country Club Road.

The Police spent several hours “investigating” this and then to top it off, they called my home and left a message and in the police report practically accused me of deliberately not answering the phone. HELLO I WASN’T HOME!!!

And even if I had engaged in this activitiy, it is not illegal. BUT TAKING MY ELECTION SIGN OFF OF A FRIENDS PROPERTY ON STONY HILL ROAD IS but I bet you, that person did not receive a call from the cops!!

IS There a Different Standard for Obama?

I received this “comparative” from a local resident. It is something to think about.

I am also running a video  under “Featured Video” where the reporter asks people from Ohio what they think of Barack Obama.

I know these people are going to a McCain rally and of course their opinions are slanted, but this is unbelievable. It is hard to believe that parts of Ohio during the Revolutionary War was once owned by Connecticut. I guess our influence must have died out.

If you don’t think there is a different standard for Obama, read on………

We really haven’t measured the effect of “race” on the race.  Think
about this and what it means about how important “race” is, (and
shouldn’t be) and let others see it:

Obama/Biden vs McCain/Palin, what if things were switched  around?

What if the Obamas had paraded five children across the stage,   including  a
three month old infant and an unwed, pregnant teenage daughter?

What if John McCain was a former president of the Harvard Law Review?

What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his  graduating class?

What if McCain had only married once, and Obama was a divorcee?

What if Obama was the candidate who left his first wife after a  severe
disfiguring car accident, when she no longer measured up to his  standards?

What if Obama had met his second wife in a bar and had a long afffair while  he
was still married?

What if Michelle Obama was the wife who not only became addicted  to pain
killers but also acquired them illegally through her charitable  organization?

What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?

What if Obama had been a member of the Keating Five?  (The Keating Five were
five United States Senators accused of  corruption  in 1989, igniting a major
political scandal as part of the larger  Savings and Loan crisis of the late
1980s and early 1990s.)

What if McCain was a charismatic, eloquent speaker?

What if Obama couldn’t read from a teleprompter?

What if Obama was the one who had military experience that included  discipline
problems and a record of crashing seven planes?

What if Obama was the one who was known to display publicly, on many
occasions, a serious anger management problem?

What if Michelle Obama’s family had made their money from beer  distribution?

What if the Obamas had adopted a white child?

You could easily add to this list. If these questions reflected  reality,  do
you really believe the election numbers would be as close as  they are?

Educational Background:

Barack Obama:
Columbia University – B.A. Political Science with a Specialization in
International Relations.
Harvard – Juris Doctor (J.D.) Magna Cum Laude

Joseph Biden:
University of Delaware – B.A. in History and B.A. in Political  Science.
Syracuse University College of Law – Juris Doctor (J.D.)

vs.

John McCain:
United States Naval Academy – Class rank: 894
of 899  Not bad, considering.

Sarah Palin:
Hawaii Pacific University – 1 semester
North Idaho College – 2 semesters – general study
University of Idaho – 2 semesters – journalism
Matanuska-Susitna College – 1 semester
University of Idaho – 3 semesters – B.A. in Journalism

Wow! Sarah went to 5 colleges to get her BA, whereas Obama
only went to 1. What's wrong with Obama?
