I received some feedback regarding the “Aging Tires” program that I provided a link to from ABC TV. This was good story. I did not even realize there was a sort of “expiration date” if you will on tires.

I was curious and went to examine two of my cars. On the 1997 Toyota Corolla, the code was on the outside of the tires and was easy to read. I believe as of 2008 the code had to be on the outside. My 2007 Kia Rio has the code on the inside of the tire so I had to crawl underneath the car. They don’t make it easy for you-probably on purpose.

On my Corolla, the front tires are older, so I looked at them first. I do rotate them every 6,000 miles,  The front tires on the Corolla said “07″ I only read the last number which is fine. The back tires read “0109″ This means the tires were manufactured the first week of 2009. They are also fine. I get my tires from Town Fair Tire which has a tremendous tire turnover so I would never expect and have never had a problem with them

I believe the  problems might be with small gas stations or garages that sell tires on the side. So now all of you should be checking the dates on your tires.

You have to look for “DOT” on the sidewall and then follow the various numbers until you come to a “rubber rectangle” the dates are inside of this “rectangle.”

Here is a photo from another article I was able to find that shows you what to look for.

Also: Monday, January 18th is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday. All across the nation people will be pausing to reflect on this wonderful man and his outstanding speeches. It is interesting to note, Dr. King received a “C” in public speaking in school, can you believe it???

People who know me always remark how I seem to know someone who has either been to a newsworthy event or has been a victim of a newsworthy event.

Here again, I remember my mom telling me of the time she was taking an adult ed class in Bridgeport in 1961 0r 1962 I can’t remember the exact year now, at the old Central High School in Bridgeport on Lyon Terrace which is now Bridgeport City Hall. She walked into the wrong room and guess who the speaker was–YES!! Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.!!!

So to honor Dr. King, here is is infamous “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop” speech given the day before he was assassinated on April 4, 1968.
