BREAKING NEWS: HOT OFF THE WALLINGFORD PUC MEETING-THE OFFICE OF POLICY AND MANAGEMENT (OPM) HAS RULED AGAINST WALLINGFORD’S ATTEMPT AT CHANGING FOUR PARCELS OF LAND NEAR CHESHIRE CROSSING FROM PLAN OF CONSERVATION TO NEIGHBORHOOD CONSERVATION. WALLINGFORD IS APPEALING. MORE DETAILS TO COME.
ELECTION UPDATE: I was “told” by a source (this was told to me face to face so I know who it is) that according to a Quinnipiac Poll (honestly I did not think they polled small town local elections), for what it’s worth-the final Town Council will be 7-2 DEMOCRATS.
I happened to be driving around town on Sunday and happened upon these obvious “acts” of vandalism. I know it was Halloween and I am sure there was more vandalism elsewhere but like this was RIGHT ON RT 10-heavily traveled and patrolled.
The photos speak for themselves, they don’t even need a caption. And again I say, no-one sees this or reports this!! I know it is hard to prevent things like this from happening but come on-it took some time to topple that street sign that at least BY SUNDAY AFTERNOON SHOULD HAVE BEEN PICKED UP BY THE POLICE.
The graffiti, will probably be taken care of this week I am sure.
These street signs are expensive, so let’s see HOW LONG it lay on the ground at the intersections of Rt 10 and West Johnson Avenue. Let’s wager-one day, two days, three days. Well if it goes into Monday. and I have to assume the vandalism occurred on mischief night which was Friday, Oct. 30th, then on Monday, Oct. 2, we will be on DAY THREE and no one in authority noticed it!!
This reminds me of the illegal dumping in back of the old Stoneworks building, some of which is still there, right near the Police Station. God knows what is in that pile!! It looks like asphalt shingles for the most part. I have had photos of it on this blog. Still nothing done-right on Rt. 10. WHAT AN EYESORE!! NO ONE CARES!!
And speaking of the election, who was in power in this town when that underground gas station went out of business?? This has been abandoned for many many years-I HAVE HAD PHOTOS OF THAT ALSO. The door was pried open and children were partying in there.I called the police and they acted like, “oh God its her and now I have to file more paperwork”!!!

What will it take—- the building to collapse on someone?? For it to catch on fire?? And what about those BARRELS that are there and at the end of the old HUXLEY GARAGE LOT-AGAIN ON RT. 10!! I had photos of that two years ago!!!
The fingerpointing needs to stop because BOTH PARTIES HAVE BEEN REMISS ON ISSUES!!
Yes the infrastructure is crumbling-I just got through running the photos of the Town Hall bricks falling apart that I TOOK IN JUNE!! I also took photos of the railing at the Town Hall that is being destroyed by children skateboarding. I am waiting for one of them to get hurt and yes there will be yet ANOTHER LAWSUIT. This can be prevented by attentive law enforcement. They are doing it right out in open in broad daylight!! NO ONE SEES THAT EITHER.
It is funny what CERTAIN PEOPLE SEE. I just have to keep saying it-if someones house two years ago was owned by my family they would have in there lickety split.
I wonder if the people who own the old Stoneworks got a call from the police about the dumping, or the owner of the abandoned gas station??
As far as the election-the same old song and dance although I must give Councilman White credit for calling attention to these take home cars and out of state trips by municipal employees. I did back him up on this and follow up on it as I could.
Bottom line: this Town Council needs to work together more as a team like the Planning and Zoning does. Forget party lines. I notice when a vote does take place, it is either unanimous or total party lines-no in between. I did see Mr. White voting bi-partisan for a while as was Mr. Dill, but that seems to have stopped. Vote for what is good for the town, NOT ON PARTY LINES!!
And as far as lawsuits go, towns and cities get sued all the time. It doesn’t mean it is right and it doesn’t mean one party will be better at another at stopping it.
We also need to go back to an ELECTED OFFICIAL WHO RUNS THIS TOWN. NO MORE TOWN MANAGER FORM OF GOVERNMENT. HE/SHE DOES NOT ANSWER TO THE VOTERS.
We also need (here I go again) A POLICE COMMISSION IN THIS TOWN. I HAVE STATED IT TIME AND TIME AGAIN AND AGAIN. THE POLICE COMMISSION IS NOT PERFECT BUT IT IS BETTER THAN WHAT WE HAVE NOW-NOTHING!!
One or two people cannot make decisions and should not be making decisions on ANY DEPARTMENT especially the police. At least with a Commission, the Chief and the Union Rep would be sitting AT THE SAME TABLE DISCUSSING ISSUES. The reason a police commission is not wanted by the powers that be in this town is BECAUSE THEY ARE AFRAID SOMEONE WILL BRING SOMETHING TO LIGHT-WELL IF THEY DO THEY DO-DEAL WITH IT!!
The actions of the Police and all department must be out in the open. It is the only way!! No more hiding or sweeping things under the rug.
Who in power will have the courage to ask for a Police Commission in this town? Do you think any of these Town Council people will?? I don’t know??
It is really hard to choose a candidate because outside of Tim White, they ALL SAY THE SAME THING-and even he is a little cautious. TALK ABOUT ALL DEPARTMENTS OPENLY AND HONESTLY.
The pool-make it one season and enter into an agreement with Elim Park to use their facility in the off season.
The Police Department-GET A POLICE COMMISSION-CHANGE THE CHARTER-STOP MAKING EXCUSES THAT SOMETHING ELSE COULD HAPPEN OR THIS COULD OPEN UP PANDORAS BOX-AND DO IT.
THAT IS WHAT THE SEXIST MEN SAID WHEN WOMENS SUFFRAGE WAS BEING DISCUSSED!! NOW IT IS TAKEN FOR GRANTED ISN’T IT??
This issue with the Police will only be resolved when both sides (union and non-union) learn to sit down at the same table and bring issues out in the open and discuss them openly.
THESE PEOPLE ARE NOT ABOVE REPROACH-I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF SUCH NONSENSE!!

Some of these mailboxes were sheared off AT THE BASE!! AND THE BASE WAS A TWO BY FOUR COVERED BY ABS PLASTIC. NO I DID NOT EXAGGERATE!!
I would move out of town TOMORROW TOWN OF CHESHIRE IF I HEARD SOMEONE IN TOWN GOVERNMENT SAY JUST ONCE-WE HAVE A PROBLEM, WE NEED TO LOOK INTO IT!!
