I am writing this post from my car which is buried in at LEAST 2 feet of snow. Oh God I hope I get out alive!!!
You know— what state are they looking at when they give the weather forecasts?? My dad used to say: “They can’t predict YESTERDAYS weather.”
I think he was right.
Anyway, I did attend the Senior Tax Freeze Public Hearing Tuesday night in the Town Hall. Of course, I WAS THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE ENTIRE EVENING AS USUAL!!!
It is weird but it seemed that something was amiss on Tuesday night. It looked like the Town Manager has a concerned look on his face.I also wonder where this consultant report is regarding the Cheshire CT Police Department. Maybe that was part of the problem I don’t know.
I am sure it is not to the Town Government’s liking so that is probably why there is a DELAY!! And don’t tell me the report is not ready-I AM SURE IT IS!!
I don’t want to say anything more about this issue-but someone seemed very upset at last night’s meeting and this persons demeanor and attire caused me to wonder. Also Town Government, was this the ONLY TIME a police chief in Cheshire, CT has been put through the NO CONFIDENCE VOTE CYCLE??
This is a disgrace. This issue with the police department should have been discussed out in the open-the Petit incident SHOULD HAVE BEEN DISCUSSED BY THE TOWN COUNCIL RIGHT AFTER IT HAPPENED-AND DON’T SAY WE HAVE THIS CRAPPY GAG ORDER!! THERE IS NO NEED FOR A GAG ORDER-THE CASE IS CLOSED!!!
The Town Council needs to address this issue ASAP and stop passing it off to some consultant. This town ALWAYS tries to play it safe-sometimes it works AND SOMETIMES IT DOESN’T AS WE HAVE SEEN IN THE PAST.
“Well, see it isn’t our recomendation (the town council) we did not come up with these ideas or these statements-don’t blame us.”
This seems to be Cheshire’s motto-”EVERYTHING IS FINE-NOTHING IS EVER WRONG”
Or again as President Kennedy said in his “Secret Society” speech: “THEIR MISTAKES ARE BURIED NOT HEADLINED-THEIR DISSENTERS ARE SILENCED-NOT PRAISED.”
The people that run this town need to learn NOW!! to stop worrying about bad publicity and basing their actions or inactions on this belief. This has hurt MANY PEOPLE and it is wrong. Things happen-ADDRESS IT. DEAL WITH IT.
Now I did want to speak about the Board of Education budget being cut approximately $950,000. This is TERRIBLE!! WHY?? The Board did not even say what is being reduced or eliminated. If they had taken my spouses suggestion with the three week payroll period-the Town could have saved $400,000 just from this idea. But no, I don’t what they are doing and thinking.
I hope the Town Council does not cut further-THIS IS MORE THAN ENOUGH.
And as far as these “flippy” courses that are not important to some people-many colleges have what they call “blended courses”-courses that are some classroom and some internet. The internet part of the course is graded by an “online teacher.”
Make some courses blended-offer them to students in their senior year. I bet that would save some cash.
EDUCATION SHOULD NOT BE DECREASED, CUT OR PROGRAMS ELIMINATED. EDUCATION SHOULD BE TOP PRIORITY!! WHAT BETTER TO SPEND OUR MONEY ON!! TEACHER SALARIES SHOULD NOT BE CUT!! WE CANNOT ATTRACT THE BEST TEACHERS IF THEIR SALARIES ARE LOW. JUST ASK BRIDGEPORT. THEY HAD TO HIRE TEACHERS FROM INDIA FOR GOD’S SAKE!!
You know what this is-JEALOUS MEN!! They are jealous because the majority of teachers are women and THEY MAKE MORE MONEY THAN THEY DID OR DO!!
As my dad used to say: (and he said this in the 1960′s) “Any salary under $1o0,000 is a BROAD’S SALARY”!!
Hang your head in shame you jealous men. ACT LIKE A MAN AND MAKE A MANLY SALARY!! That is the bottom (jealous) line isn’t it??
When I attended Central High School in Bridgeport back in the stone age-our class had 22 state of Connecticut scholars!! NOT ANYMORE!!
And we DID have large classes-30 to 50 students, so that is not an issue-that does not diminish the quality of education. IT IS THE TEACHER!! You went to college-did you have a lecture hall?? HOW MANY STUDENTS WERE IN THAT?? DID YOU LEARN?? OF COURSE YOU DID!!
As a famous cook one said-it is NOT THE OVEN THE PIZZA IS BAKED IN-IT IS THE CHEF THAT PREPARES IT!! ABSOLUTELY CORRECT!!
Cheshire does a great job with its students. The teachers work hard. They produce fantastic test scores. I am including the Hartford Courant’s website that compares every town and city in Connecticut CAPT AND MASTERY TEST SCORES.
Look at Cheshire and then type in “Easton.” This school system is to me, the benchmark. They have no commercial development, no waste of money pool no stores NOTHING!! All of their resources are poured into education-AND IT SHOWS!!

And to end-I saw my sexy boyfriend last night at the Town Council-(he knows who he is) NO IT ISN’T YOU-YOU ARE NOT SEXY AND YOU ARE UGLY TO BOOT (AND YOU SMELL TOO)!!

I am running under “Featured Video” a piece about Canadian Healthcare. The part about supplemental insurance to cover items not normally covered for free, including the low cost of the supplemental insurance IS TRUE!!
My son has been living in Canada for over five years now. When he first went there he was a student, we paid approximately $400 a year American for approximately $1 million worth of health care coverage-eyecare included. Dental was not.
UPDATE: It looks like yet another business will be shutting its doors soon. I can’t say who right now but this establishment has been in Cheshire A LONG LONG TIME-DOMMAGE!! (Too BAD).
