MEN’S BASKETBALL UPDATE: LAST WEEK K-STATE BEAT  No. 1 TEXAS. THIS WEEK-UCONN BEAT NO. 1 TEXAS!! HELLO!! WHY IS THIS TEAM (TEXAS) STILL NUMBER ONE CAN YOU TELL ME?? THEY SUCK!!!

K-STATE LOST TO OKLAHOMA STATE SO I GUESS IT IS BACK TO THE BASKETBALL DRAWING BOARD. OH WELL, IT WAS FUN WHILE IT LASTED!!

I run those Google ads on my blog. I make money from them. OF COURSE YOU DIDN’T THINK I WAS RUNNING THEM FOR FREE DID YOU???

Well, one of the “ads” caught my eye. It was for a folding glass door. I know a glass retractable door of some sorts was being discussed for the Cheshire Community Pool IF they do go with the Openaire Polycarbonate glass enclosure that the Milford/Orange YMCA has and I have showcased on this blog from time to time.

The Milford/Orange Y has the regular glass doors that open the way a conventional door opens. This doesn’t let much fresh air in-but they do not have a fence surrounding the perimeter so I think they have to have a a regular door they can lock.

Here is the link to the folding glass doors I believe would compliment the Openair structure. Click on the “pool and patio enclosure” tab on the left hand side of the website-it is really nice.

You all know I went to jury duty on Jan. 14th down in New Haven Superior Court. The two Petit home invasion suspects were on the docket when I was there but I did not get on the jury. Well, you know, I don’t get up early in the morning-I work and stay up till late night-so IF I happen to open my eyes and it is still DARK-I GO BACK TO SLEEP!!

So when I received the jury summons I complied as I did the last time around 12 years ago,  when it cost me quite of bit of money to do so-the lunch the parking. I had to go to New Haven then also.

I swear I received $50 compensation. I did not get paid for the parking which was something like $15 or the lunch or the mileage. Well this time when I went, I really thought Iwas going to get the $50 stipend PLUS the mileage. I DID FILL OUT THE SLIP!!

On Friday, Jan 22. I received the envelope from the Comptrollers Office of the State of Connecticut. I was excited and thought BOY THIS WAS FAST!!

I opened the envelope to look at the check-IT WAS FOR—$20 dollars-YES TWENTY DAMN CHEAP-O DOLLARS. NO MILEAGE!!

I was so angry, I called up the state and told them off. I told them-I woke up at 5:45 a.m. WHICH I NEVER  USUALLY DO-NOT FOR ANYONE OR ANYTHING. It was STILL DARK for God’s Sake. WHEN DOES THE SUN COME UP?? I DON’T EVEN KNOW!!

I filled up the car with gas the night before, and two days previous, I made my spouse test run me down to State Street in New Haven so I would know where the parking garage was. I drove down there-it was 36 miles roundtrip. I parked in the free garage (thank God for that) and WALKED SEVERAL BLOCKS IN THE FREEZING COLD TO THE COURTHOUSE. At least by the time I got to the garage at 7:30 a.m. it was LIGHT!!!

Then, to get this insulting tidbit-CAN THE STATE SPARE IT?? THEY BLOW MONEY ON ALL SORTS OF CRAP!! I GOT SO ANGRY I SENT THE CHECK BACK!! I SENT EVERYTHING BACK!! I VOIDED OUT THE CHECK SO NO ONE COULD CASH IT IN CASE IT GOT LOST IN THE MAIL.

CAN YOU BELIEVE IT??  I WROTE ON THE CHECK STUB NOT TO BOTHER CALLING ME AGAIN FOR $20!!   I mean what kind of message does that send?? ” Oh you are not important-so neither are the victims of the crimes or the accused for that matter. This is the PRICETAG our state puts on people involved in the judicial system-NICE!!

I spoke to several other people who told me they got the $20 also. WHO GETS $50?? I WANT THE $50. If the state insists on paying me LESS THAN MINIMUM WAGE-for my time and your time, then at LEAST SEND ME TO A CLOSER COURTHOUSE LIKE MERIDEN OR WATERBURY-NOT SCHLEP ALL THE WAY DOWN AND BACK TO NEW HAVEN!!

I don’t feel comfortable driving in New Haven-I get lost. I was nervous ALL NIGHT WORRYING. MY WHOLE ENTIRE SLEEP CYCLE WAS DISTURBED!! I HOPE THEY GET THE MESSAGE WHEN THEY GET ALL THEIR CRAPPY PAPERWORK-THAT STUPID “THANK YOU FOR BEING A JUROR” JUNK  AND SOME OTHER CRAP THEY SENT.

IT COST THEM MORE TO MAIL OUT ALL THE JUNK THEN THE AMOUNT ON THE CHECK!! FOR GOD’S SAKE-MY MOTHER WENT TO JURY DUTY IN THE 70′s AND GOT $10 A DAY!! HELLO!!

UGH!!

On a happier note-I am running photos of Montreal and dedicating them to my son Gordon (who took the photos). Gordon is moving to Toronto where he has a new job. Gordon told me he will miss Montreal and I told him that I know he really will because up to now, he has spent his entire adult life there!! He went when he was 18 years old to go to Concordia University.  I told him he will ALWAYS have a special place in his heart for Montreal. He will take something away from that place that is dear to him and carry it with him for the rest of his life.

But as Billy Joel once said:

So many faces in and out of my life
Some will last
Some will just be now and then
Life is a series of hellos and goodbyes
I’m afraid it’s time for goodbye again
