I am going to have abbreviated postings this week because of the July 4th holiday on Wednesday. I do have some news. I received a 30 second public service announcement video from Chief Michael Cruess that he participated in with members of the Connecticut Police Chiefs Association.
The announcement is basically asking all residents to obey the rules of the road, don’t drink and drive and to have a safe summer. The PSA which can also be seen on WFSB’s website and of course periodically on WFSB Channel 3, will run until Labor Day. I want to thank the Chief and remind everyone that the Cheshire Police Department will continue the random DUI and seat belt and car seat roadblocks throughout the July 4th holiday. Here is the link to the Public Service Announcement featuring Cheshire’s own Police Chief Michael “Party Like a Rock Star” Cruess.
WILL I OR WON’T I?
As you know, I have always said I would NEVER run for political office in this town or anytown. But many of you over the months have asked if I would run for the Town Council. I can’t say at this time, but I am speaking with my family and one of the political parties. I am not going to say which one at this time. Many have asked my husband to run, but because he is a state employee, he is subject to the Hatch Act, which prohibits him from seeking elected office, so that ends that.
Those of you who are familiar with me know that many people who run this town do not like me because I speak from my heart. I try to tell it like I see it and many do not agree. But even those who do not agree with me, know I always have the best interest of the town in mind. I always was interested in politics, that is how I got involved in journalism when I was younger. I will really have to think about it. It would be a courageous undertaking on my part and would take up much of my time. But you all know, I would take it very seriously and do the best for the people, all the people and for this town. Believe me, I will let you know my decision.
UPDATE
Sometime within the next few weeks, I hope to bring you all some news about the meeting between the Town Council Ordinance Committee and the Public Safety Commission (PSC), to discuss the possibility of expanding the powers of the PSC to include complaints or suggestions regarding the Cheshire Police Department. My feeling as I have said time and time again, is that complaints are a minimal part of a police commission, but this is a small step in the right direction. I believe that if the PSC does not want to take on this challenge, which I hope they will for a six month trial period, that the Town Council will be able to find people who will step up to the plate and take the initiative. As you all read from one of my older posts, the Police Chief will be having extended office hours beginning in September. I invite all residents to take advantage of this happening. You don’t necessarily have to complain, hopefully you will offer suggestions. I will keep you updated on this issue.
I have also gotten a good response from the drawing of my proposed “Lifestyle” center which involves renovating the old Ball and Socket Factory. I am working on an expanded version of the drawing, which will show more of the outside and the inside. As always, to keep you on your toes, I will have a “surprise.” If any of you want to see the original drawing, it is under the post “It’s All Political.”
