I know many of you who reside in Cheshire, CT have received the letter from the Energy Company for a chance to participate in a free energy audit of your home. The first 200 homeowners who call the 800 number will be able to get the audit for free. After the first 200, the audit can be done for a $75 fee.
This is because of grant funding from the ARRA (American Recovery Re-investment Act). Wallingford also has been participating in this but the monies have been depleted so the program is phasing out.
Thank God Cheshire jumped on the bandwagon–better late than never I guess, but Cheshire always seems to be the bridesmaid, that is because they are too cautious.
Anyway, I received the letter this past Tuesday, April 20th. I was going to call the next day but got busy. Then I read in the local paper where the response wasn’t that well received.
So, on Thursday, April 22, I called the 800 number to find out unfortunately that the 200 homeowner limit had been reached a few days ago. I was pleasantly surprised because I though not many folks were taking advantage. The woman I spoke with said the letters were mailed out last Thursday, April 15. She said on Monday, April 19, she received some calls and on Tuesday the volume of calls had picked up.
She noted that by Wednesday morning, April 21, the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund’s Home Energy Savings Program (HES) had recieved WELL OVER 400 calls. She said the phones have not stopped ringing.
So, because of the overwhelming response, if you call NOW, (Thursday, April 22) you will be able to have the Home Energy Savings audit done for $50 instead of $75!!!
Please take advantage of this wonderful program. Call 1-800-403-3500 and keep the letter you recieved because it must be turned in at the time of the audit.
OK, back to work. I am still waiting for that information I requested from the town, but I did learn it should be in my hands shortly,
