Well Monday was going fairly well—–when IT CAME IN THE MAIL.
JURY DUTY!!!!!!!
UGH!!
And I am not talking about “call the night before to see if you still have to come.”
I GOT A SUMMONS!!
This happened the last time to me. I swear someone in the criminal justice system has it in for me. My spouse gets called, but he always goes to Meriden. He also has the option of calling the night before.
NOT ME!!
I ALWAYS get a summons and it is ALWAYS NEW HAVEN!!!
I HATE driving in New Haven. I know it sounds strange but I just can’t figure out how to drive in that town and I have driven all over the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Australia, Europe. But for some reason, New Haven throws me for a loop. I will make my spouse drive me!!!
You know what-I hope I get YOU asking for the trial. I am going to pretend I don’t know you and then I will nail you!!
My summons is for mid-January-OMG!! WHAT IF IT IS THE PETIT HOME INVASION TRIAL!!
COULD IT BE?? IT MIGHT BE??
Now to switch gears, I received a call from the secretary of the Town Managers office that the Town Manager was going to call me on Monday regarding this Hipaa issue. Well I AM STILL WAITING!!!
I know this issue is complex and I did find yet another website that sort of explains what Police and Paramedics responsibilities are regarding release of a name in a medical situation.
This site seems to feel that the police CAN mention the name AS PART OF AN INVESTIGATION. But the way I see it, AND THIS IS MY INTERPRETATION, is that after the INVESTIGATION, HIPAA applies.
Believe me, Dwight Johnson’s ear must be red from being on the phone so much. If the Town Government thought they were in the clear with this issue, I would have gotten an immediate response.
This is almost two weeks later and I still have NO EXPLANATION!!

Finally, I know the GIFT is coming up-you know the GIFT from Elim Park. And I know there has been chatter about it. Look, here is the bottom line.
I don’t have anything personal against Elim Park, but this 501c3 status many of these “so called” not for profits hide behind does bother me.
When I consulted for a major insurance company’s Foundation, I saw just about EVERY GRANT THEY AWARDED. I am sorry, but it was unbelievable what some grants were awarded to or for.
“Some lifestyle group” MOVIE NIGHT-THEY GOT A GRANT FOR THAT??
Studying the effects of Yoko Ono’s artwork on a certain minority group-THEY GOT A GRANT AWARD FOR THAT TOO!!
I mean most of the awards were legitimate and were needed and appreciated-but some of it was just downright WEIRD!!
If Elim Park wants to donate money in lieu of taxes (which I don’t think should be done at all and it doesn’t matter who or what it is), they should give the money to the TOWN OF CHESHIRE.
I mean look, I read about people being concerned with the $525,000 grant from Jim Amann to Mary Fritz who then gave it to Cheshire. Some people are raising or I should say HAVE been raising eyebrows about this for years!!
They are outraged!! They call it a ‘slush fund”
This is a one time deal. I am not saying it is the best use for this amount of money, but um let’s face it-I am sure some of the Elim Park GIFT money is NOT BEING USED for necessary ITEMS EITHER!!! (like Blackberrys).
You will never ever be able to convince me that $300,000 every year (and I know some years it has gone up I think that was the total for last year between the Police and Fire Departments) DOES NOT INFLUENCE PUBLIC POLICY!!
I remember two or three years ago, when a few people were trying to raise money for the pool by having private individuals and companies purchase tiles, I went to Elim Park and asked them if they would donate money to help the pool.
The answer I received was something to the effect that Elim Park doesn’t donate to things they don’t use.
FINE AND DANDY!!
If Mary Fritz was giving THAT KIND OF MONEY TO CHESHIRE FOR TURF OR TO THE BOARD OF EDUCATION EVERY YEAR THERE WOULD BE SUCH AN OUTRCRY AMONGST SOME PEOPLE IN THIS TOWN THEY WOULD PROBABLY BURST AN AORTA!!
So the bottom line-what is good for the goose, ISN’T GOOD FOR THE GANDER IN CHESHIRE!!
