Making A Point

Sometimes I think the town of Cheshire talks out of both sides of its “governmental” mouth.

Case in point-April is “Alcohol Awareness Month” and there have been a few presentations by the Youth and Social Services Department and there was a nice display regarding alcohol awareness at last weekends Home, Business and Garden Expo at the High School.

Then my question is: WHY IS YET ANOTHER LIQUOR STORE BEING PROPOSED IN THIS TOWN??

Now I am NOT begrudging the existing liquor stores we already have, NO NOT AT ALL-BUT HONESTLY-DO WE NEED ANOTHER ONE??

The latest proposed store would be located in the Plaza where Staples and Pier One is located. That liquor store would be taking up the space formerly occupied by CVS, which as most of you know who reside in Cheshire. recently opened up a brand new store (new building) at the site of the old Damon’s Restaurant.

This new proposed liquor store-would make, I believe, a total of FIVE liquor stores in Cheshire-and that doesn’t count the several (meaning more than two) convenience stores that sell beer and the various restaurants in town that have bars in their restaurants.

For a town that is supposedly so “concerned” with underage drinking, to me, this doesn’t make sense!!

Here are photos of the EXISTING liquor stores in town-THEY ARE MORE THAN ENOUGH-WE DON’T NEED ANYMORE!!

UNFORTUNATELY: ONE OF THE PHOTOS DID NOT COME OUT. MISSING IN THE SLIDESHOW IS “CHESHIRE PACKAGE STORE”

First photo: Cheshire Wine and Spirits; Second (missing) Cheshire Package Store; Third:  Southend Spirits;  Fourth: Cheshire Spirit House and Fifth: Proposed Liquor Store in old CVS location in Staples Plaza.

BREAKING NEWS: The Budget Committee of the Town Council met to discuss the Town Operating Budget which includes the Board of Education.

My spouse went-he said in their discussions the Budget Committee was not going to make any additional cuts to the Board of Ed budget than the 1.1 million dollars the Board of Education had already cut.

The problem was: how to take up the $600.000 shortfall a zero budget would have entailed. The Board of Ed budget, under one scenario presented Monday night, an additional $201,000 would be cut from the Board of Ed proposed budget, but the cuts would be coming from the medical trust fund-as long as the town guarantees any shortfalls in the medical trust fund.

So essentially, no additional personnel cuts than what has already been proposed by the 1.1 million Board of Education cut to the proposed budget by Schools Supt. Dr. Greg Florio.

The Town will make up the money by using some or all of the $600,000 taxpayer relief fund that was established last year.

If this is wrong-BLAME MY HUSBAND-because I DON’T GET ANYTHING WRONG!!

Now, speaking of education-WAIT A MINUTE-over the weekend I ran into a member of the Town Council who said my posts ARE TOO LONG!!

You know, I went home and started thinking about it-ARE MY POSTS TOO LONG?? This person also said that my posts make him laugh!! Well at least SOMEONE doesn’t take me seriously!!

DO YOU PEOPLE ACTUALLY BELIEVE ALL THE BULLSH**T I THROW ON THIS BLOG??

DOES MY HYPOCRISY KNOW NO BOUNDS??

All I can say is: after serious consideration regarding my blog being too long–

TOO BAD!!!

Now-back to education-some of you out there of the GOP persuasion-think education is too costly. Much talk of privatization has come up in the past.

Well, like the person who tried me on the speed limits-here is a GOOD article-well written-AND I DID NOT EVEN WRITE IT-on privatization of education. Apparently the country of Chile has done this-quite successfully, and the author goes into much detail about its success.

This is a PODCAST-so don’t forget to click on the little arrow next to the speaker to hear the SOUND!!

Capitalism is alive and well, as long as Oboma doesn't try to bail out business. We the tax payers have to bail his government out. Liquor doesn't sell it's self to teens. Teens got it from their parents, homes and so called 21 yr. old adults to big the big cheese. Now that taxes are on the rise, why not target liquor, bakery goods, plastics or anything that is not green or causes health risks? The tobacco industry should start a class lawsuit on Oboma for targeting them and trying to put them out of business. With the sexual activities teens are involved in, the liquor stores could sell condoms. cigarettes and rolling papers, too. God knows where the teens are headed. Competition is good. Look at the sea food resturant that went out of business located where the old Dunkin Donuts use to be. Maybe the other liquor stores are afraid of competition and not about our teens. It's the house parties that the parents are oblivious of anything naughty going on. "Not my son or daughter, they're just having some friends over. No drugs or liquor!" Yah, right! Parents can't keep the doors open or even be in the same room, let alone anywhere on their property because it's an embarrassement to their child. Cheshire P.D could recieve a half of million and they still can't intrude on the privacy of a family. The P.D. would be lucky if a so called "rat" calls during the party to tell them what's going on at the house or home of........... Another liquor store big deal. How many pizza resturants or coffee shops in Cheshire? I'd be concern if an adult store tried to open.
