Mixville and the Pool

July 5th, 2009 by Cindy

On Sunday, July 5th, I decided to see if the new “parking fees” at Mixville had any effect on attendance considering this past weekend was Fourth of July and the weather here at least was great.

Not so in the part of New Hampshire near Lake Winnipesaukee. I was up there Friday and part of Saturday and both days in rained on and off.

It’s funny, as I was leaving the Lakes Region around 5 p.m when I got to the Concord area-the skies CLEARED!!

I guess  a lot of the rain we get up in the Lakes Region is “Lake Effect.” But even though it was cloudy and stormy-the air was nice  and clean and IT WAS COOL!!

When I got home, I did walk up my street and sit down to a wonderful fireworks display by Kurtz Farms. They really put on a great show.

But then, a friend came by with some fireworks from New Hampshire-I was in a mood that night so we treated my kids to REAL fireworks, not the wimpy anal Connecticut kind.

So even though I was not in the area on July 4th-I decided to visit Mixville and then the Community Pool.

I did take some video-unfortunately-some of it is a shaky-I still can’t figure out this stupid camera-but the Mixville one is shaky because we were driving through the parking lot which is bumpy. I hope you don’t get a seizure watching it!!

I was really surprised at what I was able to find out-you might be also.

All I know is-I think Cheshire just cut off its preverbial nose to spite its face. It figures. Some, not all, of the people in this town are TOO PREOCCUPIED with what someone looks like, where they come from, what they MIGHT DO!!

GROW UP WILL YOU!! WHO CARES!! IF PEOPLE GO TO THE PARK FROM OUT OF TOWN WHO CARES?? I GO TO OTHER TOWNS PARKS!! WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL??

IF PEOPLE START GETTING OUT OF CONTROL YOU CALL THE POLICE!!

FYI: HELLO!! WHEN YOU LIVE NEAR A PARK-IT USUALLY IS NOISY!!

I used to live in back of the Grateful Dead Motorcycle Clubhouse in Bridgeport-THAT WAS NOISY!! BUT WE HAD THE SAFEST NEIGHBORHOOD IN BRIDGEPORT I CAN TELL YOU THAT!!

So there are ups and downs to everything. I think some of these people should sell their homes and buy one near a cemetery!!

You decide after viewing these videos whether Cheshire just shot itself in the foot. Is it worth it to pay people to staff this park when SEVEN Cheshire residents (I am assuming these were seven carloads) and 12 carloads of out of town people visited  this park over a two day period??

I could remember years ago Mixville being full to the brim on July Fourth-hundreds of people!!

In fact-the media just ran a story about the people being turned away at state parks. THEY WERE FILLED TO CAPACITY!!

In fact, when I went to Mixville, I learned one can purchase a daily or season pass at the Community Pool-so I am thinking that out of town people-not knowing about the newly installed parking fees-showed up to the park on Fourth of July ready to have fun-got told they needed to pay-and most of them probably went to the pool to purchase a pass because they were already set.

I think the town should install a credit card machine-this would be easier-then they could remove it after the park closes. This way here, there would be no money and at the same time-one would not have to traipse halfway across town to buy a pass.

I did notice when I pulled up to the guard shack  at the entrance to Mixville there were NO SIGNS informing the public that a “parking fee” was now being charged or at least I did not see any sign.

Also at the Community Pool-LOSE THOSE METAL STEPS WITH THE SERRATED EDGES!! IF SOMEONE FALLS ON THOSE STEPS, ESPCIALLY KIDS WHO LIKE TO RUN-THEY ARE IN FOR SOME SERIOUS LACERATIONS!! I KNOW THESE SERRATED EDGES ARE USED FOR A BETTER GRIP BECAUSE WE HAD THESE STEPS AT ROADWAY-THEY ARE TREACHEROUS!! NOT A SMART MOVE.

IF YOU LOOK CLOSELY AT THE LAST VIDEO YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SEE WHAT I MEAN.
