FUNERAL BUNTING

UPDATE: yes progressive forward thinking people-we will be mourning for at least another two days and I will leave the funeral bunting on.  I will also continue with the sad music and sad rhetoric.

Cheshire was moving ahead- and now we will be back to the 1940′s small town small mind mentality. What can I say. The haters can get their kicks on Rt 66 (the other blog) but it will be short lived when the GOP majority start disagreeing amongst themselves. I wish them the best but I know and you know it will just be a matter of time before egos and tempers start to roll. The Democrats should just sit it out on the sidelines and let it happen. Then regain power in two years. I mean every party has its faults, but God, the Democrats were not THAT BAD!! We did have a group of clique people that came into this town several years ago and wanted things like the pool and the turf. They seem to have set sail into the sunset. But I blame the stodgy GOP for letting Cheshire lag behind. We could have collected tons of tax revenue 20 years ago, if Cheshire, THEN RUN BY THE GOP had allowed Apple Valley Mall (where the proposed Lifestyle Center is to be located); they also balked at having Rt 10 WIDENED “oh we don’t want to attract the wrong people.”

Yeah now we don’t attract anyone!!

So then, Southington and Meriden beat us to the punch with the mall (in Meriden) and the widening of Queen Street in Southington (that has ALL THE STORES AND RESTAURANTS I KNOW YOU SHOP AT)!!

I wonder where the money is going to come to fix this pool. In Milford, it came from PRIVATE DONORS aka LOCAL BUSINESSES. Cripe, in this town, we can’t even get our local businesses to pay for the fireworks!!  We will have to see what happens but I am  not holding out much hope for Cheshire anymore.

Hopefully I WILL BE WRONG!!

To show you that I am not all anti-GOP which I am not, there is even a Google Ad in my sidebar from the Republicans (because I can’t take it down, I wish I could) the town of Stratford booted out Democratic Mayor James Miron-many people called him Mayor Moron and put in a Republican. Man this guy was a piece of work!! He actually had the Stratford Town Charter changed from a Town Manager form of government to a Mayor form of government several years ago, then took it upon himself to run for the office he created. AND HE WON!! I KNOW THIS CHANGE IS FOR THE BETTER IN STRATFORD!!

Now to switch gears:  WFSB is running the story about the Cheshire High Football team canceling their football game because 40 percent of the team is supposedly ill.

Ok, WHO or WHAT entity is taking a salary freeze? Well many of you Republicans out there will  be interested to know that it is the Berlin Board of Education.

At its Oct. 26th meeting, the Board ratified a three year contract with its teachers. The new contract runs from July 2010 to June 2013 and get this: IT INCLUDES A SALARY FREEZE FOR ALL TEACHERS DURING THE FIRST YEAR OF THE CONTRACT!!

According to the Berlin Citizen, the second year of the contract will see a wage increase between ZERO PERCENT and 1.25  PERCENT and the third year-a general wage increase between .25 PERCENT and 1.7 PERCENT.

The contract also INCREASES HEALTH INSURANCE CO-PAYS DURING THE SECOND  YEAR OF THE CONTRACT and INCREASES  HEALTH INSURANCE PREMIUM SHARE CONTRIBUTIONS BY TEACHERS DURING THE SECOND AND THIRD YEAR OF THE CONTRACT.

So, if the Berlin teachers were willing to take a freeze, I think the Cheshire Board of Education may want to re-think our 4.4 percent teacher salary increase over the next few years if they can. I don’t know if we are locked into this now.

Something to think about.

If you have been reading my blog, then you have seen the photos of the vandalism to the Yellow House and the street sign at the intersection of W. Johnson and Highland Avenues.

Well, the street sign HAS BEEN PUT BACK INTO PLACE-THE GRAFFITI AT THE YELLOW HOUSE HAS BEEN PAINTED OVER-AND NOW I NOTICE (you know I have GOT to stop writing in caps. Maybe I should go to stop writing in caps anonymous).

Anyway, now I notice the Cheshire Herald has picked up on the vandalism spree that obviously took place on mischief night which was Oct. 30th. The Herald has a photo and a small blurb on the defacing of the skateboard park. I did not notice this one, but I did notice the sign in front of that new pizza place-DaVinci Pizza has been “re-written” and it says something like “crap” or something I don’t know. Some kids obviously had too much time on their hands last Friday night.

And as I have stated before-NO ONE in authority noticed this??

They know what goes on during “mischief night” Now I can see things happening on side streets or remote areas of town that the authority may have missed-but come on THESE INCIDENTS WERE RIGHT ON RT 10!!

Hopefully the police have a lead or maybe even caught the culprits. That would be good news.

To change topics: I know this “No Confidence” vote by the Cheshire Ct Police Union against the Police Chief is going to be a challenge for the GOP Town Council. I did find a company that “mediates” these types of disputes.

All progressive forward thinking people in Cheshire are still in mourning over the vote. And let me remind you, progressive and forward thinking, DOES NOT ALWAYS MEAN FREE SPENDING. I HAVE NEVER VOTED YES ON ANY OF THE REFERENDUM ITEMS IN MY 24 YEARS IN THIS TOWN.
