UPDATE: I knew this would happen. I went to my mailbox after getting home around 2 p.m and alas, there was a letter from the Town of Cheshire CT. TOO LITTLE TOO LATE. I AM NOT BEGRUDGING ANYONE ANYTHING BUT I DO FEEL DISAPPOINTED. OH WELL, MAYBE NEXT TIME.
The letter was postmarked by the Town’s postage machine forFebruary 7, 2012 which was Tuesday, so I should have received it Wednesday because it was intertown. BUT, if the letter wasn’t mailed until Wednesday morning, then it was more than likely, I would receive it when I did on Thursday. They should have mailed the letter out on Friday or MONDAY THE LATEST to make sure it would arrive BEFORE the CHESHIRE HERALD PUBLISHED ON THURSDAY.
Anyway, here is what the letter said:
The letter is from the Town Manager’s Office and signed by the Town Manager (not the Personnel Committee) weird. It states:
Dear Cindy,
The Personnel Committee has asked that I write you regarding the Town Historian position. The Committee was extremely impressed with your presentation and qualifications. However, they have not selected you as a finalist.
The Committee greatly appreciates the time and effort that you put into your presentation and hopes that you will continue to support our local historical initiatives.

I have a question for you. How would you like to find out you were terminated from your employment by reading it in the local paper ? You would be less than thrilled I assure you.
Well, this is EXACTLY what has happened with this Town Historian position. I had to find out I WAS NOT IN THE RUNNING ANYMORE BY READING THURSDAY’S CHESHIRE CT HERALD!
I made a statement to this effect to the Cheshire Herald. Hopefully, they will run it in next Thursday’s edition. I don’t begrudge the two finalists, Ms. Chesanow and Mr. Gagliardi AT ALL. But, come on, could the Town of Cheshire CT send me a letter informing me of their decision BEFORE they released this information to the local paper? Talk about tacky. I was really disappointed and insulted because the article did not even mention the other two people who applied for the position. Old habits die hard in Cheshire CT but they will die out believe me. It will take time and perseverance. A lot has already changed over the years. How would you feel?
I applied for this position because I WAS SINCERELY INTERESTED IN IT. I could have brought some different ideas to promote the history of the Town. I honestly had a feeling, that if I looked in today’s (Thursday’s) Herald, I would find out the answer-and I did. No real surprises to be honest. This is how the Town of Cheshire CT operates.
They cry that no one will step to the plate and volunteer and then when you do, you get ignored. Do they realize this country was built on differences of opinion? Give different people a chance. No, they want you involved if you agree with them, otherwise, don’t bother. I know they begrudge me because of this blog, but this blog brought out a lot of information the regular press would not run and you know it. You can criticize all you want, but YOU DID NOT STEP TO THE PLATE- I DID. I PUT MY MONEY WHERE MY MOUTH IS. YOU DIDN’T.
Well, Town Government of Cheshire CT, DON’T ASK PEOPLE TO GET INVOLVED WITH THE TOWN IF YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO ENTERTAIN PEOPLE WITH DIFFERENT IDEAS. IF YOU THINK THAT IS A THREAT TO THE WAY YOU DO THINGS HERE-WELL, THAT IS TOO BAD. AS I HAVE STATED PREVIOUSLY, IF OUR BODIES’ IMMUNE SYSTEM WAS LIKE THE TOWN OF CHESHIRE CT, WE WOULD ALL BE DEAD IN 15 MINUTES-BECAUSE EVERYONE IS ON THE SAME SIDE WITH THE SAME TRAIN OF THOUGHT-AND THAT IS NOT NORMAL AND IS DANGEROUS TO BOOT.
