What Really Happened?

You know it would be just a matter of time before someone came out with a “Tiger Woods” game on this car crashing incident.

So I did want to expand on this additional Step for the Police Department in Cheshire. I spoke about it several times but I did want to add a few points.
First of all this step, which would add approximately $1,000 to the police officer’s salary would be a TOP STEP. This would not be available to first year officers or even five year officers. It would be at the TOP RUNG.
What this does is allows people who WERE NOT PROMOTED either because they were not liked or not ass kisser or brown noser, this step would allow these people to increase their pay. This additional step I believe would make people stay with the department. No one should be punished because they did not get promoted. I mean, if you are a screw up on your job or did something illegal, you shouldn’t be working at this department or any department anyway.
If you did not perform your duties you should not be promoted either. So I hope the Cheshire Town Council will take up this additional Step situation which is available to Derf at the Labor Department so it is tried and tested.
I believe this will solve at least one of the issues at this Police Department. We don’t really know what the other issues are because no one speaks out in the open about it. Hopefully this will change but in all honesty, I think we are moving forward in REVERSE now with this new Town Council.
I guess the old guard in Cheshire got they wanted for a while at least, all one sided no discussion-TERRIBLE!! UGH!!
Finally, this is an REALLY REALLY EXCERPTED VERSION of the letter sent to the ACLU on Nov. 16th. I cannot and WILL NOT ELABORATE BECAUSE OF LEGAL STIPULATIONS.
What is important is the time discrepancies.
The Police arrived at the home according my spouse at 10:07 p.m. and at 10:11 went back outside to (perform a duty).
The police left the area at 10:38 p.m. It was not continuous. They LEFT MY HOME AND WERE OUTSIDE THE HOME FOR NEARLY ONE HALF HOUR BEFORE ILLEGALLY RE ENTERING THE HOME WITHOUT MY PERMISSION.
I am linking you to a video on Youtube which was posted by the Bassick High School football team showing their winning touchdown against Harding High School.
Bassick, which is located in Bridgeport, does not even have its own sports complex and is in danger of losing its entire athletic program because of lack of funding.
After watching the video, please vote for the team on the bottom of the page. If they get enough votes, the team will win $15,000 of badly needed funding which will help keep them going athletically.

This game was played at Kennedy Stadium in Bridgeport owned by the City of Bridgeport. They HAVE artificial turf. They got a grant that paid for the entire cost several years ago. This is a CITY OWNED facility not connected to any of the High Schools.
PLEASE HELP OUT BASSICK-CLICK ON THE LINK BELOW AND IT WILL BRING YOU TO THE STATE FARM FRIDAY NIGHT FEATS WEBSITE. THERE ARE TEN VIDEOS. CLICK ON “THE FINAL PLAY.” THEN CLICK ON THE STARS (ALL OF THEM) TO GIVE BASSICK THE HIGHEST RATING.
Here is a chance for CHESHIRE TO HELP A FELLOW SPORTS TEAM THAT REALLY NEEDS OUR SUPPORT.

Recruitment and retention of high quality individuals to be police officers is a difficult task. There are a lot of factors in play, not to mention the “competition” of other towns and cities, who also draw from the pool of candidates. Money tends to be more of a motivator to young, single persons. But as these new recruits get settled and have families, they become concerned about benefits as well.
Sorry to say, but an additional $1,000 as the top step of the pay scale isn’t going to do it. These officers can make that in a few extra construction type jobs. The town needs to have a decent pay and benefit package to attract and keep the very best candidates. The college incentive they offer is about laughable. Some twenty years ago, West Hartford was paying about ten times what this town does for a four year college degree. In Massachusetts they have the Quinn Bill, which is a serious incentive for police officers to get advanced degrees. The town would certainly reap the benefits of having a professionally developed staff.
Serious candidates will have done their homework and will know which police departments have a good reputation for being well-equipped, professional, progressive, and have a forward looking administrator (chief) and command staff. These are the people that you want to recruit and retain for a full career. They also want to be treated with respect and have some input about the operation of their department.

I gave it my best shot what can I tell you. All of us want the police department to be fairly contented. It affects their work. I think the Cheshire Police Dept is well equipped BUT you are correct in that they don’t have a say in things. That is why I will continue to say that Cheshire should have a police commission. It isn’t perfect, but I think we should give it a shot. And please, let’s not hear from some people “its too much government.”
That is like saying the Congress and Senate are too much government. They are our checks and balances. This is the way our country was set up. The people are the checks and balances. I would like to see these issues that you talk about addressed out in the open.
