Summary Call Log NOVEMBER 30 2011

WILL BE POSTING ON WEDNESDAY-TRAVELING TO CT.

I DID RECEIVE A COMMENT FROM A READER WHO SUPPOSEDLY WITNESSED THE NOV 19 ACCIDENT INVOLVING THE LOCAL CHESHIRE CT RESIDENT. THIS WITNESS CLAIMS WHAT WAS WRITTEN ON THE POLICE REPORT IS NOT TRUE. MORE ON THIS ON WEDNESDAY.

DEC 12, 2011-I received word that former Cheshire  CT Town Council member Justin Adinolfi  has passed away. He was 55 years old.

HERE is the obituary for Justin J. Adinolfi. I liked Justin-he was go-getter and he would always listen and entertain any ideas from his constituents.  Sad.

UNDER “FEATURED VIDEO” CHRISTMAS AT CENTRAL STATION-MONTREAL. WHEN I SEE THIS VIDEO, I THINK OF  MY SON WHO USUALLY TRAVELS HOME VIA TRAIN ALONG WITH THE DEAD BED BUG I FOUND IN MY DAUGHTERS SOCK AFTER I DID HIS LAUNDRY.  WELCOME TO (BEDBUG) MONTREAL UGH!

MONTREAL HAS A LOT OF BEDBUGS. SOME OF THE BIGGEST HOTEL CHAINS ARE LOADED WITH THEM. BE VERY CAREFUL-EVERY TIME MY SON COMES HOME, WE GET VISITORS. WE KNOW HOW TO GET  RID OF THEM. WE PUT BOUNCE DRYER SHEETS UNDER THE MATTRESSES-COVER THE MATTRESSES WITH THOSE MATTRESS SHEET COVERS-SPRAY TWICE A YEAR-ANT AND ROACH KILLER AROUND THE BASEBOARDS.PUT STICKY TAPE AROUND YOUR BASEBOARDS-IF YOU HAVE BEDBUGS THEY WILL GET CAUGHT ON THE TAPE. THEN YOU KNOW YOU DEFINITELY HAVE A PROBLEM.

IF YOU SEE THEM IN THE MATTRESS-YOU HAVE TO THROW IT OUT-NO GETTING AROUND IT. IF THEY GET IN YOUR SOFA-THAT IS A GONER ALSO.  WE HAVE HAD PROFESSIONALS COME IN AND SPRAY AS A PRECAUTION. BEDBUG BITES LOOK LIKE MOSQUITO BITES. USUALLY THOUGH YOU WILL SEE THE “BREAKFAST, LUNCH AND DINNER” BITES-THREE BITES IN A ROW-THAT IS MORE THAN LIKELY-BEDBUG BITES. YOU PROBABLY HAVE GOTTEN BITTEN AND JUST THOUGHT IT WAS MOSQUITOES. BEDBUGS ARE VERY VERY TINY-LIKE A SPECK OF RICE. BUT BOY CAN THEY SPREAD. BEDBUGS NEVER LIVE MORE THAN 10 FEET FROM YOU (THE HOST). THEY ARE ATTRACTED  TO YOUR BODY HEAT. THEY JUMP AND HITCH RIDES FROM TRAVELERS. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HYGIENE.

REMEMBER-HE WHO MADE KITTENS PUT SNAKES IN THE GRASS!

BACK TO THE “FEATURED VIDEO” THE PART OF THE  VIDEO SHOWING “DUSK” AT THE TOP OF THE MONT ROYAL LOOKOUT DEC 25-IT IS 3:30 p.m.! DUSK AT 3:30 p.m. in WINTER. DUSK AT 21:45 or 9:45 p.m. in Summer.

THESE ARE THE CHESHIRE CT POLICE DEPT. SUMMARY CALL LOGS FOR NOVEMBER 30 2011 from 7 a.m to 11 p.m.

I DID REQUEST THE OCTOBER 30, 2011  LOGS WHICH I SHOULD BE RECEIVING SHORTLY. I HAVE HEARD FROM MANY OF YOU THAT YOU ENJOY READING THESE. WELL, YOU WON’T READ THEM ANYWHERE ELSE THAT IS FOR SURE.

Heartbreaking

DEC 9 2011-I RECEIVED THE WRONG DATE FOR THE CHESHIRE CT POLICE CALL LOGS. I WANTED OCTOBER 30 2011 AND RECEIVED NOVEMBER 30 2011. IT WAS MY FAULT BECAUSE I WAS THINKING OCTOBER AND NOVEMBER CAME OUT OF MY MOUTH. I DID NOT REALIZE IT UNTIL THE OTHER DAY WHEN I LOOKED AT THE DATE ON TOP OF THE SHEET. I WAS WONDERING WHY THERE WERE ALL THESE MOTOR VEHICLE PULL OVERS. THAT IS WHY-WRONG DATE. I WILL RUN NOVEMBER 30 AND WHEN I RECEIVE OCTOBER 30 I WILL RUN THAT ALSO. SORRY.

ALSO, I DID CONTACT A CHESHIRE CT POLICE REPRESENTATIVE WHO WILL BE TAKING ACTION ON THIS UNDERAGE DRINKING ISSUE TAKING PLACE IN THE PARKING LOT OF THE CHESHIRE WINE AND SPIRITS LIQUOR STORE.

CAVEAT EMPTOR!!

I DO HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT HOW THE POLICE KNOW THE OCCUPANTS OF THE CAR ARE UNDERAGE AND CAN THEY JUST GO UP AND ASK THEM FOR ID. IF I PURCHASE ALCOHOL (WHICH I DON’T DO) AND MY 18 YEAR OLD SON IS IN THE CAR, I DON’T THINK THAT IS ILLEGAL. I MEAN LOOK, IF I GO HOME AND HE HAS A DRINK, (WHICH IS IS NEVER DOING IN FRONT OF ME), WHAT CAN YOU DO? THIS IS SORT OF A STICKY WICKET. I WILL TRY TO FIND INFO ON THIS.

WHAT CAN THE GOVERNMENT DO.

FOUND INFO ON THIS SUBJECT:

DO YOURSELVES A FAVOR-IF YOU ARE UNDERAGE AND WANT TO DRINK THAT BADLY-GET ON I-91 NORTH UNTIL YOU GET TO THE VERMONT/QUEBEC LINE-FOLLOW 55 NORTH TO 10 WEST-WILL BRING YOU TO DOWNTOWN MONTREAL WHERE THE LEGAL DRINKING AGE IS 18!! LIVE IT UP THERE!! HONESTLY, THEY REALLY DON’T CARD UNLESS THEY SEE YOU WITH YOUR PARENT OR GUARDIAN. THEN THEY “FAKE” LIKE THEY CARE AND WILL CARD. OTHERWISE-THEY DON’T CARE.

WHEN MY SON WENT TO COLLEGE IN MONTREAL, HE WENT ON A BUS TRIP TO QUEBEC CITY-THEY SERVED BEER ON THE BUS TO THE STUDENTS! I CAN ALWAYS TELL THE AMERICAN KIDS IN MONTREAL-THEY ARE RUNNING UP AND DOWN THE STREETS CARRYING BOOZE SCREAMING WITH JOY. BOY, THE MONEY THEY ARE MAKING UP THERE FROM LEGAL UNDERAGE DRINKING. THE PEOPLE IN QUEBEC THINK THIS IS WEIRD. THEY DON’T UNDERSTAND HOW YOU CAN BE AN ADULT AT 18 BUT NOT DRINK. THIS IS THE WASP PURITAN WAY OF THINKING. IN ONTARIO,  ENGLISH CANADA)THE LEGAL ADULT AGE IS 19-ALSO FOR DRINKING.

IN ITALY “UNOFFICIALLY” IT IS 16 FOR BEER AND WINE, 18 FOR HARD LIQUOR BUT AGAIN THEY DON’T CARD. THEY HAVE BARS IN THE GROCERY STORES FOR GOD’S SAKE. I KNOW MANY ITALIANS FOUND IT MIND BOGGLING THAT U.S. KIDS COULD DRIVE AT !6! YOU CAN’T DRIVE IN ITALY UNTIL 18, BUT FEEL FREE TO BOOZE IT UP AT 16. CULTURE DIFFERENCE.

READ BETWEEN THE LINES OF THIS ARTICLE.

It is illegal for anyone under the age of 21 to:

  • have alcohol (opened or unopened) in a public place or car.
  • buy, attempt to buy, or order an alcoholic drink.
  • have someone else buy or attempt to buy an alcoholic drink for you.

It is illegal for anyone to:

  • use a fake, forged, or altered driver’s license or other identification to obtain alcohol.
  • drink alcohol while operating a motor vehicle or operative a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
  • purchase or attempt to purchase alcohol for anyone under the age of 21.

Possession of an Alcoholic Beverage by a minor in a Motor Vehicle [14-111a]
While not considered an arrest, any underage person (under the age of 21) who has any type of an alcoholic beverage in their vehicle will receive a written warning. A copy of this warning is sent to the Department of Motor Vehicle. DMV will contact the operator to appear for a motor vehicle hearing at which time it will be determined whether the person’s operator’s license will be suspended and for how long. If a minor has any alcoholic beverages in their vehicle and person of legal age is accompanying them, then there is no violation.

Underage drinking ordinance
Definitions – “Alcoholic Liquor” shall be as defined in section 30-1(3) of the Connecticut General Statutes, as amended. “Host” shall mean to organize a gathering of two(2) or more persons or allow the premises under one’s control to be used with one’s knowledge for a gathering of two (2) or more persons for personal, social, or business interaction. “Minor” shall mean a person under the age of twenty-one (21), as defined in section 30-1(12) of the Connecticut General Statues, as amended.
Possession – No person under the age of twenty-one (21)shall be in possession of any container of alcoholic liquor, whether open, unopened or closed except when accompanied by or in the presence of his or her parent, guardian or spouse who has attained the age of twenty-one(21) years. The restriction shall apply to both public and private property.

Hosting Events – No person shall host an event which allows the consumption or dispensing of alcoholic liquor to or by a minor or minors unless said minor or minors is or are accompanied by or in the presence of his or her parent, guardian or spouse who has attained the age of twenty-one (21) years.
Exceptions – the following shall be exceptions to the provisions of this ordinance: 1. A person who is an employee or permit holder under Connecticut General Statues 30-90a and who possesses alcoholic liquor in the course of his or her employoment or business; 2.A minor who possesses alcoholic liquor on the order of a practicing physician; 3. The possession or consumption of alcoholic liquor by a minor as a part of a religious service; and 4. The possession of alcoholic liquor as otherwise permitted by law.

Penalty – Any person violating any provision of this act shall be subject to a fine of $99.00.

Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs [14-227a]
While the State has a blood alcohol content law of .10%, it has also adopted a “zero tolerance” level for underage drivers. The limit for any person operating a motor vehicle under the age of 21 is .02%. Any person with this or a higher level will be arrested and charged with DUI. In addition to the criminal prosecution, a copy of the report is forwarded to DMV for a hearing to determine if the person’s operating privileges should be suspended.

Sale or Delivery of Alcoholic Beverages to Minors [30-86]
While DUI arrests are considered motor vehicle charges, this statute is considered a criminal violation. Any person, regardless of age, who sells or provides alcoholic beverages to a minor will be arrested and sent to court. This statute includes providing alcoholic beverages to minors as in the case of a party. If there is an underage party where alcohol is served, provided, or purchased, the person responsible for the party will be arrested. If it is determined that parents are at home, they may be arrested. Violation of this law is a felony.

A person may have permission to have a few friends over, but the party may be crashed by uninvited guests. Because the police are aware of this, they will come to your home and assist you in removing your uninvited guests so that you may continue to enjoy yourselves in a safe and legal manner.

Possession of Alcoholic Beverages by a Minor in Public [30-89]
Any person under the age of 21 who is found to be in possession of an alcoholic beverage in public will be arrested and required to appear in court. This offense carries a fine of $200-$500. If convicted, DMV also mandates a 150-day operator license suspension.

Misrepresentation of Age to Procure Alcoholic Beverages [30-88a]
This offense involves any person who misrepresents their age or who uses or exhibits an operator’s license belonging to another person to procure alcoholic beverages. It carries a fine of $200-$500 and a possible imprisonment of 30 days. DMV will also suspend the offender’s operator’s license for 150 days.

MORE LATER.

I HAVE THE CHESHIRE CT POLICE DEPT. SUMMARY CALL LOG FOR OCT. 29, 2011, THE DAY AFTER WINTER STORM ALFRED. I WILL PUBLISH THIS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. MANY PEOPLE COMPLAINED THE POLICE DID NOT MONITOR THE TRAFFIC WHEN THE POWER WENT OUT, RESULTING IN A CHAOTIC FREE-FOR-ALL ON THE ROADS. WELL, WHEN I PUBLISH THESE LOGS, YOU DECIDE FOR YOURSELVES. I CAN TELL YOU ONE THING-THE TRAFFIC TICKETING CONTINUED. I WISH THESE PEOPLE WOULD LOOK AT HOW DETRIMENTAL THIS ACTIVITY HAS BEEN TO THIS TOWN AS FAR AS ITS REPUTATION. IT IS A NICE TOWN-BUT THE PEOPLE WHO RUN IT NEED TO RE-EVALUATE. WHEN PEOPLE COME INTO THE TOWN TO DO BUSINESS OR WORK, THERE WILL BE SOME THAT TAKE ADVANTAGE AND COMMIT A CRIMINAL ACT. THAT IS THE DRAWBACKS OF A FREE AND OPEN SOCIETY.  KILLING THE SEED BEFORE IT CAN GROW IS NOT HEALTHY. ALL OF THIS ENFORCEMENT, AND THERE ARE MORE ACCIDENTS AND SPEEDING THAN EVER. IF THIS WERE SUCCESSFUL, YOU WOULD NOT SEE ANYMORE OF THIS WOULD YOU? IT IS JUST A CHANCE FOR SOMEONE TO LINE THEIR POCKETS BY TAKING THE MONEY OUT OF YOURS.

A FAMILY MEMBER HAD TO WAIT A YEAR AND A HALF TO GO TO COURT BECAUSE A POLICE OFFICER IN A NEIGHBORING TOWN “THOUGHT” HE MIGHT HAVE GONE THROUGH THE YELLOW LIGHT! CAN YOU BELIEVE WHAT THE STATE’S PRIORITIES ARE! OF COURSE-IT IS A MONEY MAKER-THAT IS WHY-IT IS REVENUE. WE WOULD BE BETTER OFF PAYING A “FEE” TO THE STATE, AKIN TO A TOLL, SO WE COULD DRIVE ON THE ROAD AND BE LEFT TO DRIVE IN PEACE.

CONCENTRATE ON REAL LAW BREAKERS-DRUNKS-TEXTING-CELL PHONE-NOT “TRAVELING UNREASONABLY FAST-FOLLOWING TOO CLOSE OR SEAT BELT. IF YOU DON’T WANT TO WEAR YOUR SEAT BELT THAT IS YOUR PROBLEM.

THERE ARE PLENTY OF REAL VIOLATORS OUT THERE. AGAIN, ALL THIS TEXTING ENFORCEMENT AND THE TEXTING USE ACTUALLY WENT UP! WHY, BECAUSE THE CELL PROVIDERS GIVE FREE UNLIMITED TEXTING TO THEIR CUSTOMERS. THEY NEED TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE. THIS IS BORDERLINE CRIMINAL ACTIVITY.

FAIL!

SPEAKING OF DRINKING, D TOLD ME HE HAS NOTICED PEOPLE GOING INTO A CERTAIN BIG LIQUOR STORE IN THE NORTH END OF TOWN, BUYING LIQUOR AND THEN GIVING IT TO UNDERAGE PEOPLE WAITING OUT IN THEIR CARS IN THE PARKING LOT. D HAS WITNESSED THIS SEVERAL TIMES WITHIN THE PAST MONTH. I SUGGEST INSTEAD OF TRAVELING UNREASONABLY FAST AND NO SEATBELT-THAT THE CHESHIRE CT POLICE DEPT. GO OVER TO THE CHESHIRE WINE AND SPIRITS STORE PARKING LOT AND MONITOR IT. PLENTY OF ARRESTS TO BE MADE. THIS IS CONSTRUCTIVE.

I had been at the University of Bridgeport not long ago and took these photos of some of the old homes that were once a part of this area and a part of the University. Now, albeit for one, they are rotting away. Another slice of Bridgeport’s history gone. So sad. Bridgeport always has to play bridesmaid. They are either a second thought or no thought at all. THE PHOTOS DO NOT SHOW THE ORNATE DETAILS-THE WOODWORK-THE SIZE OF THESE HOMES. ANYPLACE ELSE THEY WOULD BE WORTH MILLIONS!  IN BRIDGEPORT CT THEY ARE WORTHLESS AND ABANDONED.

Thank you Hartford.

ONE HOME THAT WAS SAVED-WALDEMERE HALL. (THIS IS THE  UNIVERSITY OF BRIDGEPORT PRESIDENT’S HOME AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE).

THIS HOME OVERLOOKS SEASIDE PARK-LONG ISLAND SOUND. THE OTHER HOMES HAVE TO BE TORN DOWN. BEYOND SAD. A DISGRACE. THIS IS OUR HISTORY IN BRIDGEPORT-IT IS SLOWLY BEING DESTROYED BY NEGLECT, VANDALISM, FIRE, IT JUST LEAVES YOU FEELING LIKE YOU HAVE NOTHING-NOTHING TO LOOK BACK ON-NOTHING TO LOOK FORWARD TO.

IT’S A CHALLENGE: PRESERVING BRIDGEPORT (CT)’s HISTORIC HOMES.

MORE INFO ON WALDEMERE HALL

Waldemere Hall, built about 1913, was originally the residence of William Leigh and his wife Frances, who was P.T. Barnum’s granddaughter. Later, Frances’ cousin, Clinton Barnum Seeley, owned the house, as did his nephew, Herbert Barnum Seeley, Jr.

The grounds attached to the building were once extensive, but, following the example of P.T. Barnum’s generosity, the Seeley family donated part of their property to the city of Bridgeport. The area is now part of Seaside Park, adjacent land donated by Barnum himself, and is used for athletic fields.

Purchased by the University in 1967, Waldemere Hall is currently in good condition, having been continuously used for academic offices and as the official residence of the president of the University. The first floor of the house is also used for University functions and public events.

Tesla

IS IT ANY WONDER, I REJECT YOUR BEST

“FAME”- David Bowie

We haven’t given up on the petition to get rid of CL&P (Constantly Losing Power). People are taking a short hiatus because of the holidays. In the meantime, here is an interesting piece on Nikola Tesla who experimented with wireless electricity in 1903 yes 1903 and was responsible for alternating current (not direct current) being implemented in the United States.

Can you guess why financier J.P. Morgan backed out of funding Tesla’s wireless electricity coil experiments? Yes, you know the answer-how would you charge people for “wireless” electricity.” No money to be made-Morgan pulled out.

ON “FEATURED VIDEO” ANOTHER FORGOTTEN NAME-NO FAME HERE EITHER-PHILO T. FARNSWORTH-THE INVENTOR OF TELEVISION.

Improvement

Dec. 3, 2011-Kansas State Football WON ITS LAST REGULARLY SCHEDULED SEASON GAME OVER IOWA STATE-30-23. K-STATE IS 10-2 on the year. THERE ARE RUMBLINGS THAT COACH SNYDER WILL BE NAMED “COACH OF THE YEAR.”  IF ANYONE DESERVES THIS TITLE-IT IS COACH SNYDER.

This is my last semester at K-State. I had a 36 month tenure track. I knew it when I accepted the position-but I am taking it hard. I know I will return. In the meantime, I have a position in CT at a small university. I remember 35 years ago, going to a school I NEVER SAW and look what I was able to accomplish. I love K-State and will miss it dearly. Fun school, good people, joy and happiness.

KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY ALMA MATER

I know a spot that I love full well, ‘Tis not in forest nor yet in dell, ever it holds me with magic spell, I think of thee Alma Mater.

“KSU, we’ll carry the banner high, KSU long, long may thy colors fly. Loyal to thee thy children shall swell the cry.

“Hail, Hail, Hail Alma Mater.”

I believe late last Winter, early Spring, I took some photos of the dreadful conditions of the old Artsplace building on Maple Avenue in Cheshire CT. I believe this was at one time, the old Cheshire CT police and fire station. I was shocked at how run down it was on the outside, and from what I could see through the windows, the inside looked even worse.

You know,  I came from a city that saw many of its historical buildings and landmarks (not all), but many, either destroyed by fire, vandalism, both or left to rot away. Heartbreaking.

Well, a few weeks ago, I happened to be passing by the old building on Maple Avenue and noticed THE OUTSIDE WAS BEING PAINTED! HOORAY! What a difference a coat of paint and some TLC makes. I know a new garage door was installed, I saw the company doing it. The paint job is top notch and I KNOW WHO DID THE PAINT JOB YOU CANNOT EXPECT ANYTHING LESS THAN PERFECTION FROM THIS PERSON. EXCELLENT WORK.

I do understand however, the inside is in DEPLORABLE CONDITION. SHAME ON THE TOWN. THIS IS A MUNICIPAL BUILDING. IT WOULD TAKE HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO CONSTRUCT A NEW ONE BELIEVE ME. PEOPLE ARE PASSING BY EVERYDAY-THIS BUILDING IS IN THE MAIN PART OF TOWN-FOR GOD’S SAKE MAN-TAKE SOME PRIDE.

THIS IS LIKE THAT AWFUL PILE OF BRANCHES AND DEBRIS IN BARTLEM PARK. RIGHT OUT IN THE OPEN EYESORE FOR ALL TO SEE.  I THINK WE SHOULD HAVE A BONFIRE. WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Anyway, here are the “BEFORE” photos and the “AFTER” photos.

Christmas Scenes

DEC 1, 2011: I just found out from the Cheshire CT Public (I hate the word public and the word count-one slip and it turns into something else)-anyway, I just found out from the DPW that the branch cleanup from Winter Storm Alfred is continuing. The DPW is now on Section Two-going into Section Three-which is near the Correctional Center. The cleanup should be completed by Christmas.

I asked what section the DPW did first-of course they did Section One near North Brooksvale Road. (Isn’t that where the Town Manager lives?). Of COURSE THEY DID SECTION ONE FIRST! DUH!

A few readers asked about Thomas Dolby. From time to time I run his music videos as I am doing at the moment. Thomas Dolby is 56 years old now. Besides his music-he is famous for one other invention-ALL OF YOU USE THIS EVERY DAY.

In the 1990s, Dolby re-created himself as a digital-musical entrepreneur, founding Beatnik, which developed the polyphonic ringtone software used in more than half a billion cell phones.

A friend told me she noticed in the Cheshire CT Herald that the Town is looking for a Town Historian. This is a two-year volunteer position. She told me I should apply. Maybe I will. I know I am not here all the time, but I could probably do it. I am running my project “Cheshire: Then and Now” that I did a few years ago. I will think about it.

NOV. 30. 2011- Here is the text of the traffic  accident report on the local Cheshire CT resident which occurred on Nov, 19, 2011 at 10:45 a.m. as obtained from the Cheshire CT Police Dept. I am redacting the names.

THE OPERATOR OF TRAFFIC UNIT 1 (TU1) WAS PULLING OUT OF A PRIVATE COMMON DRIVEWAY AT 1074 S. MAIN ST. WHEN HE STRUCK A PEDESTRIAN IN THE ROADWAY. TU1 STATED HE WAS APPROACHING S. MAIN ST FROM THE PRIVATE DRIVEWAY. HE STATED HE LOOKED TO THE LEFT AND TO THE RIGHT, HE OBSERVED HEAVY TRAFFIC TRAVELING NORTH ON S. MAIN STREET. WHEN HE LOOKED TO THE RIGHT, HE STATED HE DID NOT SEE ANYONE WALKING ON THE SIDEWALK. HE STATED HIS VIEW OF THE SIDEWALK WAS PARTIALLY OBSTRUCTED BY A SIGN. AS HE STARTED TO PULL ONTO S. MAIN ST, HE STRUCK A PEDESTRIAN ATTEMPTING TO CROSS THE ENTRANCE TO THE PRIVATE DRIVEWAY FROM THE NORTH SIDE OF THE PRIVATE DRIVEWAY. HE CONTINUED TO STATE THAT THE PEDESTRIAN WALKED INTO HIS VEHICLE, NOT THAT HE STRUCK THE PEDESTRIAN.

A WITNESS WHO WAS TRAVELING NORTH ON S. MAIN ST, JUST SOUTH OF THE ENTRANCE TO THE PRIVATE DRIVEWAY AT 1074 S. MAIN ST., STATED HE OBSERVED TU1 APPROACHING THE ENTRANCE TO S. MAIN ST. THE WITNESS STATED HE OBSERVED TU1 LOOK TO THE LEFT, AT ONCOMING TRAFFIC, THEN PROCEED TO START TO PULL ONTO S. MAIN ST. THE WITNESS RELATED THAT HE COULD SEE THE PEDESTRIAN APPROACHING THE PRIVATE DRIVEWAY AND BEGIN TO CROSS THE DRIVEWAY, WHEN HE WAS STRUCK BY TU1. THE WITNESS STATED IT APPEARED AS THOUGH THE PEDESTRIAN WAS “PULLED” UNDER TU1.

THE PEDESTRIAN WAS LOCATED APPROX. 5 FT INTO THE DRIVEWAY, IN THE PATH OF THE SIDEWALK AS IT WOULD EXTEND INTO THE DRIVEWAY.

THE AFOREMENTIONED SIGN IS LOCATED JUST EAST OF THE SIDEWALK, APPROX. 4 FT OFF THE GROUND AND MEASURES APPROX 15 INCHES BY 6 FEET.

TU1 WAS MOVED BY THE OPERATOR PRIOR TO OFFICERS ARRIVAL ON SCENE.

I did ask the Police Dept. about the diagram. It shows the stick figure (pedestrian) lying where the crosswalk would be-head facing towards S. Main St. The photo I took shows “a square” that is the pedestrian,  who is 87  years old, but it shows the location out in the breakdown lane, not in the crosswalk at all.

The police explained they do not do an outline of the victim in the event of a death-that would be inappropriate. So, they outline the top half of the body with a square figure.

If the local resident obtains the police accident report-he should be able to measure (from the catch basin) on S. Main St.  “63.8 ft N and 2.1 ft E and this would give him the exact location of the pedestrian after he was hit.  The diagram as I stated previously, shows the stick figure “in the sidewalk area” (if the sidewalk were extended across the road-the pedestrian is shown in that area).

The police report does show under “Enforcement Action Taken”—Arrest. (which means he was given a ticket).

I have found all sorts of conflicting information-one site says the pedestrian has to yield to the driver in an unmarked crosswalk-another says motorists have to yield to the pedestrian whether the crosswalk is marked or not.

This website says that usually police don’t issue a report of an accident ON A PRIVATE DRIVEWAY OR ROADWAY. I sort of believe this because years ago, I took my kids to McDonald’s in Meriden CT and I got hit from behind by a motorist IN THE DRIVE THRU. How brain dead was this guy?

The motorist did give me his information-come to find out-the person I was working for at the time knew the owner of the vehicle-this man owned a popular banquet hall in Wallingford, CT, so he paid the damage. BUT, the Meriden CT police did NOT file a report-they said it was private property and they were not obligated to do so. This sounds like the cop who said he wasn’t OBLIGATED to stop at a stop sign in a PRIVATE lot. Hmm!

From the “Answers” website

Typically, a law enforcement agency will not do an accident report on private property. Since you have no documentation, it will be hard for you to pursuit any action. Your sole course of action anyway would be civil or small claims court. Then it is your word against their word. It is a good idea to carry a disposable camera in your car to take photos. Most States require that both parties provide basic information such as name, address and telephone numbers when involved in an accident, whether on private or public property.

Also, I did speak with Mansfield, Mass, population 24,000, Electric Division. They have had their own Electric Division since 1902 so it was not just started. The man I spoke with gave me a name of a local activist who is interested in this issue. I will be e-mailing him later on in the week. Mansfield Mass is located near Foxboro.

I did receive a copy of the local resident’s (Cheshire CT) accident report from the local police records department. I did discuss the report with them. Apparently the pedestrian sustained injuries. All I know is-”Failure to Yield to a Pedestrian” in Connecticut is an infraction and THREE points are assessed on the driver license. I did notice however, the police report NEVER MENTIONED the driver received a ticket for “Failure to Yield to a Pedestrian.” There was also a witness to the accident.

In know the local resident received a ticket-I was there when it was given to him.

In the meantime, here is a video I did a few years ago for the holiday season.
